Clean, good location (walking distance to supermarket), good heating, very spacious, safe, nice bathroom, nice hot tub, offered early check in, good kitchenware for cooking. Overall a great place and we had a wonderful time and will definitely come back!

Clean and comfortable apartment. For 4 people it's fairly small but enough. Sleeping couch is comfortable but note there is no noise cancelling from the bedroom. All amenities you need provided. Around 15min walk to the city center.

Lovely location in the gorgeous city of Akureyri. Walking distance to lots of attractions and grocery stores. The host Sandra is amazing and very welcoming. Made the stay very cosy.

Fantastic layout and really comfortable. Sandra was really helpful and attentive. Even dropped in to see if we needed anything. Really felt like a home away from home which was a real bonus when the weather was bad one day. Laundry facilities really great and hot tubs looked great although didn’t use. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again

Everything! The apartment is really stylish and modern. The kitchen had everything to prepare your food, the bed was really comfy, in the bathroom you could find all you need towels, hairdryer etc. I definitely recommend this apartment!

Hafdals Hotel Best stay along Ring Road - don’t miss! This was the best hotel stay during our entire Iceland trip. It has an unbelievable scenic view of the fjord and snowcovered mountains behind. It was a perfect place to take a huge exhale after a long day of driving. You could really get lost in the view, which is why I was so glad we stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is family-owned and small, with maybe 9 rooms or so lined up in a row. The room aesthetic was modern and chic, which huge sliding doors and windows to take in the magical view. The breakfast room was cozy and the breakfast was simple but delicious. I was really surprised and impressed with how hands-on the owner (Hafdal) was to care of the hotel and support the guests. You saw him doing hard work on and for the property to keep it neat, equipped, and running to perfection. There were three of us and he charged 50 EUR per day to add an extra twin bed to the standard two-twin room, which he brought and assembled himself. It was unique to see someone take such pride in their work and so dedicated to hospitality. Long story short - stay here and you will 100% not regret it! Since there are so few rooms make sure you book early. And if you can’t, still stay on this side of the fjord since the views are way better than the city center side. The Hafdals view is still imprinted in my brain and looking forward to coming back again!

By far the best hotel we stayed at in Iceland. The hotel is situated upon a hill overlooking Akureyri and the magnificent waterfront. The room offers a breathtaking view of the waterfront and I felt like I could spend hours just staring at the view. The hotel has a handful of rooms and that adds to the very quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The rooms are quite clean and spacious and very elegantly furnished. The floor to ceiling windows and the private patio allow you to soak in the amazing view. We found the breakfast to be simple but yet wholly adequate. My wife and I are vegetarians but we felt very satisfied with the options on offer. The only very minor feedback we would have is to keep the slices of cheese separate from the slices of meat at breakfast. Since people tend to use the same serving fork for both the meat and cheese, the vegetarians may feel uncomfortable taking the cheese. There is also ample free parking available at the property.

When you get to the Hafdals Hotel you will be impressed by the view and then you’ll realise that you get to enjoy this view every single second during your stay (well not every second, the bathroom has no view towards Akureyri but this is no fault of the hotel). Speaking of the room it is quite spacious and the shower has some nice water pressure. The complete hotel facility was clean and well managed! The breakfast buffet is adequate, there is a good amount of choice and the food and drink is of high quality. The bed is comfortable and the provided pillow lead to some restfull sleep.

Many options for breakfast, all food was fresh and tasty. Views from the rooms was peaceful, the rooms themselves were VERY clean, quiet and spacious!

Lovely quiet hotel with a welcoming and helpful host. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable room with a great hot shower. The view across the fjord to Akureyri is stunning but beware driving at night or in bad weather as the road to the hotel is narrow, winding and unlit and as the hotel only serves breakfast you need to get into Akureyri for an evening meal.

We stayed for three nights in January and cannot fault this hotel. The hotel is at the top of a hill so has stunning views of the mountains, town and fjord and when we entered we were wowed by how cosy, clean and well presented everything was. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay, from bringing a kettle to the room, to helping me search for a lost glove, the service was amazing. Breakfast had an excellent selection of hot and cold food and drink options, catering wonderfully for gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan. We were really impressed. The king room was fairly spacious, had huge windows with stunning views of the mountains, a really powerful shower, L'Occtaine toiletries and the comfiest bed we've ever slept in! The mattress, duvet and pillows were all so comfortable we struggled to get out of bed! The room had a coffee machine and hair dryer, with plenty if space to unpack clothing, boots, and coats for those colder days. We had a brilliant stay and would absolutely love to return. Thank you so much to all the staff for making our first trip to Akureyri memorable and magical.

Very clean and warm. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful, the room was comfortable and it had all the facilities needed. The staff seemed to go above and beyond when asked for something. I was also amazed that they had tea lights lit all day in the main foyer, it gave it a very cosy feel and I was very comfortable. The breakfast was also delicious, fresh and good quality. It’s quite expensive if you don’t have it included though so I would always recommend booking with breakfast included.

The location is good - it is walkable to town. However, the walk back from town is a rough uphill trek. The room is nice enough. The bathroom design is not good. There is a glass divider instead of a shower door. So when you take a shower, there is water all over the bathroom floor. So then you are using the toilet, your feet are in a small pool of water until it all drains and dries. This seems to be a bathroom design trend lately, but it just doesn't work. The sink is outside the bathroom, which I have never seem before. I can see it being useful if you are sharing a room with someone and they can use the shower while you use the sink and mirror to brush teeth, shave, put on makeup. There was a small amount of mold on the shower floor. Really nice L'Occitane toiletries - big sized, and attached to the wall. I like the nice bench to sit on. I also like the luggage bench. I hate leaving my bag on the floor and having to bend over to get things. I love the bench, it is sturdy and practical. The room had a kettle to make tea or coffee, dryer, blackout curtains. Breakfast buffet is ok, not great. It is good enough but not special.

Perfectly Location to explore Akureyri! Just up the hill and opposite the geothermal pools (with slides which was a bonus for my daughter). The hotel staff were great on check in. They gave us access to the pools for my family (i recommend going family or no family). We took a walk around the local town which was lovely. We had bar snacks for our dinner which were delicious and my daughter enjoyed the kids menu. We got to see the northern lights just outside. Rooms were clean and plenty of space for my family of three. Breakfast was delicious also. A perfect stay! Thank you.

located on top of the hill, in a central position. Just next to the active swimming pool, visible from our window. Spacious room, well furnished and new. the bathroom separated into two spaces, this is helpful to accelerate the use by the two of us. It has nice common spaces for an evening chat and a fantastic restaurant, Aurora, for breakfast and dinner, much appreciated specially as very few restaurants open in the city at this time of the year.

I cannot fault our apartment. It was clean, well equipped and in a very convenient central location. We didn't use the cooking facilities as there are several restaurants close by (including the excellent Rub23 just down the road), but everything we might have needed seemed to be there. They even provided two extra chairs, which allowed us to have breakfast together with our friends who were in another apartment. Note that although it is not mentioned on their website, the block has laundry facilities for the use of guests.

I fell ill during our stay & the owners of K16 were exceptionally helpful. I was having a hard time figuring out where to go and how to get help. Margaret navigated me through that process & drove me to a health clinic. I’m very grateful for her kindness. That aside, the apartments are clean, well appointed, comfortable, centrally located with ample free parking and in a very safe area. There is free laundry service & the owners are very responsive to guests. I highly recommend K16 Apartments!

Location, comfort and value! This apt was well-managed and furnishings were in great condition. The location is perfect for walking to sites, restaurants and bars. The only downside was that the floors were swept, but had dirt spots and needed to be washed. The dirt showed on the bottoms of our socks. Everything else was clean.

K16 was the best lodging I stayed at during my time in Iceland. The room was big, it had a kitchenette, TV that had Netflix, couch, nice bathroom, laundry unit (outside the room) and it was in the center of Akureyri. Restaurants and bars were a stones throw away. If I come back here I will definitely be staying at K16 again. They send you a code the day of, and it’s super easy; no hassle of checking in, etc. You just walk in and when it’s time, you walk out. Loved it.

Hotel Norduland in Akuyreri was my home away from home for 3 nights. I had originally booked for one night but due to road closure as a result of flooding from the glaciers, I booked additional nights as I needed them to see if the roads would be fixed so I could continue my road trip East on the Ring Road. John and Judy (as well as another staff who worked that weekend) were wonderful. They helped to reassure my worry about how the rest of my trip would continue, they were kind, professional, and welcoming. I had so many questions about driving in the East Fjords and they patiently answered all of them!! The hotel was clean, the breakfast healthy and delicious, and the bed was comfortable. If my future travels take me back to Akuyreri, Hotel Norduland will be my choice!

Spent 1 night here on our Ring Road tour. Room and bathroom were small and standard. Clean and quiet. Breakfast was adequate but no hot foods other than coffee/tea. Breakfast room was comfortable.

Quaint little hotel close to town. Very dated and in need of an update. The photos you see online don’t really represent the mold in the shower or the shower that is almost too small to be an RV shower. Bed was comfortable, staff were kind, breakfast was good. Curtains not sufficient to keep the light out so bring a mask if you come when it’s light all the time. Parking was essentially about 6 spaces across the street so get there early if you want to park for free.

The staff were friendly and professional. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. By Iceland’s standards, it was good value for money. No complaints. I would recommend.

The location was very nice and the privacy was exceptional. The jacuzzi was comfortable and sheltered from wind. Host was very nice.

Location at the windswept shore of the fjord with feeling of otherworldly remoteness, yet just a 10 minute drive from Akureyri. Hot pot/jacuzzi, hot water in the shower, perfectly working central heating, comfortable beds, wheel equipped kitchen. A short drive to Strytan Dive Centre if that's what you are here for.

This was the top rated place we got chance to stay in Akureyri and much recommended to all as i loved every bit corner of that loving home. The surrounding was beautiful just next to the lake and isolated and personnel and the inside house was accomplished with all needed facilities including a loving Jacuzzi out under sky !! would rank as best of my experience in whole of Iceland !!

The beautiful cabin is located in a quiet countryside location which we enjoyed very much. The kitchen is very well equipped. The living room and dining area are very nice. There is a balcony. We loved to be able to have a home cooked dinner. Excellent for a family. We did our laundry in a central cabin, very convenient

This is an amazing guesthouse. Absolutely beautiful from the moment you walk in. The guesthouse is clean and ver modern. The hallways do get loud at night for a brief time but quiet down. But the cleanliness, service, amenities, far outweigh the noisy hallways. It didn't bother my husband at all and I put in some ear plugs. WIFI is excellent. Shared bathroom are spacious and amazingly clean. Always cleaning and pocond fresh towels, rugs, etc. Coffee and tea provided through stay. Oh an the hot tub is a must! You will not be disappointed. Love love love!

Lovely guest house out in the country. Quiet, even with a room right next to the bathroom and shower. Staff was friendly and helpful; breakfast was good. Nice property with a view of the sea and a large herd of horses outside. Everything was convenient and clean on the property.

We usually don't stay at a guesthouse, but we chose this place based on the price and reviews because we found other hotel options to be limited in Akureyri. We were very glad we did. The guesthouse itself is very cute, and much thought has been put into its decor. Rooms are clean, and comfortable enough, albeit small. The only inconvenience we knew about ahead of time was that the bathrooms were shared, but there seemed to be plenty as we never had to wait to take a shower or use the toilets. The bathrooms themselves are equipped with hair dryers and even Q-tips. In the dining room, they offer free coffee and tea all day. Breakfast is fairly basic, but with some nice touches like homemade jams. Dinner (which you can get for an extra charge) was a nice surprise. The food was solid, and they even bake their own bread. Finally, as an added bonus, there is a fairly sizable hot tub with a great view. This establishment clearly cares a lot about its guests. They seem to have thought of everything. We had a wonderful time. Tips: The guesthouse is part of a network of Icelandic farm experiences (similar to an agritourismo in Italy), and they offer horseback riding tours, which I highly recommend.

Excellent choice of hotel if you're staying around the Akureyri area. The level of service from all the hotel staff was exceptional! Going above and beyond to please their guests and ensure everyone was satisfied. Rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. Hotel is only a short drive away from the main town centre while also being ideally situated far enough to have a chance at seeing the Northern Lights. We were lucky enough, with the guidance of hotel staff, to see the Northern Lights - and during a summer month! While the lights were barely visible from the city centre, staying at this hotel was the perfect choice as there was minimal light pollution. Left us with memories we'll forever cherish. Will definitely stay here again on another trip around Iceland.

Beautiful hotel!! We stayed for 2 nights and were totally charmed by its quaint feel. There is a free hot tub and sauna available to guests which is such a nice touch as well. Breakfast was also fantastic. Staff was so friendly and welcoming, one man at reception went the extra mile to walk with us and show us exactly where the sauna was when we arrived and got a little lost- thanks so much for that!! Room was perfect for what we needed it for and you are only about an 8 min drive to the city center. You also get a beautiful view from your room :) highly highly recommend!

Hotel has small charming back garden, breakfast is on the second floor where you have lovely view. Hotel is clean and safe with a nice breakfast buffet. Staff was very helpful in solving a problem I had with some personal gear and suggested resources to turn to.

We stayed in Iceland for 2 weeks, at 6 different properties. Hrimland Apartments in Akureyri was the best property by far. The building looks very new and is well maintained. The location is perfect--right in front of the departure point for whale watching, and just 5 minutes walking distance from the main restaurant and shopping area. There is a new, modern, fast elevator, so no hauling your luggage up multiple flights of stairs like other properties. All the rooms are good sized. The bathroom is clean and modern, with plenty of shelf space, and the shower is human-sized. The kitchen is well equipped. Everything was clean and worked, including the washer and dryer, and there was free detergent. We loved this place and recommend it highly!

Hrimland is a clean, modern, well decorated apartment near the waterfront. There’s adequate space, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well organized, and the balcony provides a comfortable place to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the boats come in. After eight days of exploring Iceland, we particularly appreciated the washer and dryer. And the heated floors were a delight. The emailed check-in instructions were clear, and we had no trouble following the “house rules” posted just inside the front door. Free parking was always available right outside the building. Just remember that the entry code for the front door is exactly the same as the code used to access the apartment itself. And the trash bins that you use upon check-out are in back of the building under the exterior stairs. This really is a terrific place to stay—modern, clean, and right near the town center. I would be happy to spend a week or two there. Hrimland has my highest recommendation.

Was an amazing modern apartment. Clean, spacious and comfortable. Fully equipped kitchen. Washer and dryer was the best, to wash our clothes mid trip. Very convenient location. Walking distance to main shopping street. Beautiful view of the harbour. And there is also a lift. Would have been even better if there is ramp at the main entrance.

Location was amazing - walking distance to everything you could want. There was plenty of free parking right out front as well. The door code (for the building and the apartment) was hassle free and easy. There was an elevator up to apartment. We found the apartment to be well stocked, clean, and spacious. The heating floor system was easy to use. The laundry was also easy to use in the unit as well. Though there was no shower curtain in the shower, the way the floor eating & provided squeegee allowed us to remove the water that went on the bathroom floor. (I believe it was designed this way, just a note for us Americans who are used to shower curtains.) Overall, I would absolutely stay here again!

It was also really useful having access to a washing machine as we needed a few things washing by this point in our trip. Everything was really clean and the corridors etc remained really clean throughout our stay. Great location with easy access to the town centre restaurants shops and bars, or a short drive to the bigger grocery shops. Great place for a longer stay in Akureyri, has everything you need to be comfortable and have more independence around food.

The self service check-in and out is very convenient. There’s also a reception area but we didn’t meet anyone of the staff in our stay. Anyway they always respond via booking and they’re always willing to help. The accommodation in Akureyri is up on a very slope road and on the day we stayed in the city it was snowing so the road was also slippery. We recommend people to drive very carefully and use a 4x4 car with appropriate winter tires. There are multiple parking spots nearby. The room was on the first floor and it was a bit difficult to carry our heavy luggage. The room was by far the best one we’ve booked in our trip in Iceland. It was very spacious, the bed was big, it had different windows so natural light could pass through, the host provided us fresh towels, sheets, there was a hairdryer and a mini fridge as well. The bathroom was amazing, it felt luxurious. It had a tub big enough to fit 2 people, a small shower and a little balcony with a nice view of the streets and trees covered in snow. It was a really nice experience, thanks

My one night stay at FE Gisting Guesthouse was lovely! Just up the hill from the city center of Akureyri, it was a five minute walk to many shops, bars, historical/art interest points, and restaurants. On-street parking was easy to find, free, and safe. The home is very sweet and adorable, the office/lobby area beautifully decorated. The bedroom I stayed in was in the front of the house, but I did not encounter much noise. En suite bathroom with shower, comfortable clean linens, a small refrigerator, and a tv were in the room. Coffee and tea provided in the main room. An excellent value overall! Akureyri was a really cool little city, and the proximity, safety, and overall vibe of FE Gisting made it one of my favorite guesthouses in Iceland. (Also there is a public pool across the street, which I sadly did not experience! But next time!!)

We had a large, bright and airy room on the first floor - stairs to negotiate, and a great view. The room had an ensuite with views too! Such a nice change from staring at walls or inner courtyards out of hotel windows. There was a good table, two chairs, and armchair as well as a comfortable bed and room to hang clothes. We parked nearby the guesthouse (free) and walked into town for dinner. Great location but the hill is quite steep coming back up. Worth it for the views.

These apartments are great value for money with an excellent location, quiet but less than a 10 minute walk to the main street. They are modern with good beds. They are larger than average apartments. The kitchen has everything you need to make breakfast or dinner. There is free parking, wifi amd tv with Netflix. It is easy to contact the hosts by phone or message. We rented two apartments for our family. Easy to access with a code.

Where do we start? Fantastic hosts, absolutely lovely people to deal with from start to finish. Apartment location is spot on! Just a very short stroll to The HOF, which is where the tours and buses go from. We were so lucky to have a little balcony overlooking the valley - which was unexpected and lovely! Totally spotless, super comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Bed was amazing, and the whole apartment was warm and toasty. Very-very highly recommended… I’d go back tomorrow if I could!

This is a really enjoyable and relaxing hotel. We loved the view from our room. The bed was extremely comfortable and the cherry on the top was the jacuzzi in the evening after a long day hiking. The breakfast was just perfect (for variety, quality and quantity). Staff was very welcoming and friendly. The room has a coffee machine and chocolate, cappuccino, coffee pods.

Nice hotel located in a quiet area, with parking right at the door. The room had some charm and all the necessary amenities. There is an outdoor jacuzzi, although we didn’t end up using it. The price is not too high (and includes breakfast), which considering the standards in Iceland makes it a very good option.

It was a great stay from the moment we arrived. The owner's son was outside when we arrived. He greeted us and walked us in and introduced us to his mom, who was very welcoming and accommodating. The room was spacious and comfortable with an amazing view. Breakfast was prepared for us each morning and it was nice, really good quality with a lot of variety. The location was perfect, about 15 minutes from downtown Akureyri so it is convenient if you have a car. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone visiting the Akureyri area, and I would stay here again without hesitation.

Everything was amazing. The guesthouse is on a farm with beautiful mountain views. Elisabeth is such a lovely, welcoming host. The guesthouse is very beautiful and has a lot of personal touches. Elisabeth is so accommodating and so kind. And her cooking is amazing. We had the dinner she offers, she cooked quite a lot of food for us. My husband had the meat dish and i had the fish which came with veggies and scalloped potatoes. One of the best meals I've ever had. She even prepared a special meal for my 10 month old which was so kind. She also cooked a dessert which was an apple/berry crumble which was also very delicious. At breakfast she served homemade bread amongst other things which is very very good.

We loved this place. Its a working farm, and Elizabeth let us walk around and meet the animals... It was baby season, so there were tons of lambs and even a BEAUTIFUL grey baby calf which we fell in love with. The valley is strikingly beautiful with horses, and views of waterfalls from your breakfast table. We arrived late in the day and the owners were extremely flexible on feeding us... its best to consider eating here (dinner) since its a bit of a drive to any restaurant. Overall a wonderful experience -- we look forward to returning and spending a bit more time in the peaceful valley --- its perfect place to decompress! (no TV, but the wifi was excellent)

This lovely guesthouse is a gem. The rooms are clean, warm and cosy. But the best part of the stay is the lovely host Elisabeth. She offered to prepare us dinner, because the stay is away from any other restaurants. She allowed us access to the washer and drier, so we could clean and dry our bathing suits and towels. All the little handmade details, the selected decorations and dishes give this place a special soul. The breakfast was delicious also, with everything you could want. Would really recommend this stay.

We’re near a ski resort too. Safety It feels very secure. Walkability Nobody walks in Iceland. Please drive. Food and drinks Buy from Bónus and store it in your fridge. There’s also a common fridge that looks very nice (like glass door nice). Theres also a microwave. Noteworthy details There’s a hot tub!!! And the place feels so nice. Don’t stay in the city just stay here and enjoy yourself!!! Edit: We got the see the strongest northern lights from the balcony (though out the trip).

It’s a very nice room in the perfect setting just outside of the town. The 5-7 min drive to get food in the evening was very convenient. Very comfortable bed, great to park our car right outside the terrace of our room. Shower was great, great little coffee machine and good to have a fridge. Really easy to check in and great to not have key/key cards as I always worry about losing them! Prompt and helpful communications from staff on the self check in process - makes life easier when you’ve been travelling all day and very tired, thank you!

The location is excellent—just a few minutes’ drive from the city center, situated halfway up the mountain. At that altitude, we were lucky enough to catch the aurora right from our balcony. The bed was super comfortable, and the room was spacious and clean. The dining area had shared kitchen amenities like a toaster, microwave, and kettle. Our room also came equipped with a hairdryer, smart TV, coffee maker, and mini fridge, which made it really convenient for us to prepare breakfast and heat up meals in the evenings. There's also several supermarkets located nearby.

Apartment was tastefully renovated and very comfortable, to the extent that I wished it was my own. Beddings and towels were new and clean, kitchen was well stocked and the availability of a washing machine and dryer was much appreciated. We also liked that parking was available for free and the apartment was just a short walk to the town centre and wharf. I should add that the host was very gracious and professional in that there was a slight hiccup during the check-in process (no fault of theirs), and they graciously refunded us for the inconvenience caused. The act was unexpected but showed how serious they took their business. I have no hesitation recommending G19 to anyone.

The apartment is on the ground floor of an older renovated villa right in the city center and within walking distance of attractions such as the harbor and botanical garden. Parking in front of the house is possible and free of charge. Check-in is done via email and number combination. The apartment is completely renovated and very stylishly furnished. It consists of 3 bedrooms, 2 of which have double beds, a very large kitchen-diner, a separate living room and a large bathroom with a modern shower. The kitchen has everything we need to cook for the five of us and the dining table has space for up to 8 people.

Convenient location as right next to city centre. though the bedrooms are a bit small, the sitting room is spacious and cosy. The apartment is decorated beautifully. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked breakfast there.

It was a very comfortable and clean setup which was really appreciated. It was great that it had a functioning kitchen, large clean bathroom, and a washer and dryer. Beds were warm and comfortable and clean, and it was restful to have a spacious living space to feel at home in. The only thing I wish to give constructive feedback about is that perhaps the property could provide kitchen towels or cleaning equipment so that we can better clean up the kitchen after we cook? There were no cleaning linens and very little amount of kitchen paper towels. Overall , one of the better quality stays we had in Iceland! Thank you

The location in the middle of town was good. We stayed in the 3 bed apartment and were originally only going to stay for one night but ended up staying for 2 nights as was so comfortable and convenient. Spotlessly clean, very well equipped with quality oven, hob and cooking utensils so we could cook a decent meal. Filter coffee machine with filters and coffee supplied. A utility room with a washing machine and drying facilities. A large communal space and 3 good sized bedrooms with very comfortable beds. Good sized bathroom with great shower.

Our stay at the ACCO apartments was perfect. It is in an ideal location in the heart of Akureyri with everything in close walking distance. The inside of the apartment was modern and comfortable. The wrap around balcony on the top floor provided us with amazing views of the downtown on one side and the water on the other. I wish I could live there!

The apartment was extremely comfortable. It had everything we needed for our stay. The shower could have been a little cleaner and it drained a little slow. Our biggest issue was the noise. As others have stated the bar downstairs and birds are incredibly loud. Even with earplugs, the bass from the music at the bar was detectible in our unit on the 3rd floor. The back of the unit overlooks a shared area where the kegs and 8 dumpsters attracts a flock of seagulls. There really isn't anything the managers could do to improve either. Our stay was a Friday-Monday and the bar noise was worse on Friday and Saturday, but the birds were only quiet for about 2 hours per night (when it was dark). If you are unfamiliar with the sound of screeching seagulls, they were like a loud, obnoxious alarm that you have no control over.

Really lovely hostel, within a 10 minutes walk of Akureyri. The hostel itself is spotlessly clean, my room was lovely and comfortable. The kitchen and dining area is spacious and the free tea and coffee is a lovely touch. There are plenty of showers and toilets so I never had to wait. Everyone here was lovely, and all respected the quiet after 11pm rule. I would definitely stay here again, amazing value for money!

The location is perfect – quiet and peaceful, yet close to everything. The room was very clean and comfortable. A special thank you to the host, who was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommend.

The room was spacious, with comfortable beds and nice furnishing. The shared living areas were very cozy and there was plenty of seating in the dining area. The bathrooms were lovely and the shelves made for good storage of clothes/toiletry bags, and I like that there were piles of hand towels for one time use - with a washing basket in the corner- it felt more eco friendly than single use paper towels. The bathrooms were very clean as well which helped me to feel comfortable using this shared space.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. It has a self check in, there is so warm and cozy inside , also we got amazing view and right in that place catches our first Aurora😍 Comfy kitchen with a lot of cutlery, there is everything you need. Even if the bathroom is not on the room - it is so clean and stylish, with a lot of towels. Highly would recommend this place!

A really well thought out hostel. Bathrooms were stylish and always clean and available- and easy to keep clean and use too. Our room was a good size and comfortable and I slept really well. It was a real treat - and much appreciated - to have complimentary hot drinks; hot chocolate after a northern lights spell in the cold was ideal. The kitchen is very well equipped and organised and again easy to keep clean. Great communal space to relax in - and all guests seemed respectful of the place and people. We were really impressed with our stay. Also, got to see the northern lights on our walk back from the Main Street one evening (there’s a hill with a monument on it just past the big shopping centre) and even from the room itself! Other key traveller tips would be the free city bus to take you part way to the airport, also Akureyri car hire about 8 mins walk away: brilliant service and value.

The bed was comfortable, the room spacious but the bathroom was quite tiny- albeit perfectly adequate. A Dyson hairdryer was provided and a Nespresso machine for coffee. It would have been nice if there had been a kettle for tea though but we know Iceland is big on coffee and not tea. Breakfast was served in a different building and the room was extremely tastefully decorated with a distinct retro vibe. Loved it . The choice at breakfast was very good choice but there was no fish. Their cinnamon buns were particularly tasty. We loved the eclectic decor of the hotel- mixing old with new and the particular retro vibe. The bar and entrance reminded us of retro places in New York, the breakfast room of an upmarket ski chalet- beautiful. The lobby was perfect for lounging ( and drinking beer). We wouldn’t hesitate to come back

The Hotel Akureyri's staff was welcoming and the hotel was generally clean. There was some construction going on around and about the hotel. Our room 303 had a view of the fjord (across a road or two). Bedroom: 4 standard pillows, 2 split duvets, 4 electrical outlets near bed, 2 bedside tables, 1 bedside lamp, 1 desk, 1 chair, no desk lamp, built-in suitcase stand under a clothes bar (with hangers), sheer curtains, room-darkening blinds, no safe, windows able to open and stay open. Bathroom: Some counter space, step-in shower with curtain surround (draining issue), 1 hair dryer, no shower cap, no tissues, yes body wash, yes shampoo/conditioner, no bar soap, 2 small glasses (helpful for filling reusable water bottles at the tap), 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 2 wash cloths, 1 bath mat, no hand towel hook near sink, 1 towel warmer, vent fan with bathroom light, and the hot water smelled of sulfur. Technology: TV (such bad signals, no channels), adequate wifi. Miscellaneous: Free parking (on street), no fitness facility, dining room (breakfast included).

We stayed here for 2 nights, our room was located in the newer bit of the original hotel with a lake view. Having read reviews when booking, we decided to book a standard double as opposed to the economy room. We were pleased with our room, which, although not spacious, it was clean, the bed was comfortable, good shower and lovely views of the lake. Breakfast was in another building along the road. Plenty of umbrellas were provided, so we didn’t get wet during the consistent rain we experienced. The bar area was a nice place to chill out before dinner or later in the evening with a few lively games of pool. There were also other table games to play and plenty of coffee table books to browse through. This hotel is well located with free parking, while both the old town and new town were only a few minutes away. The harbour, where you can go on whale watching tours is at the most 15 minutes walk.

We loved this hotel. The most outstanding aspect was the breakfast - one of the best we have ever experienced at any hotel. Fresh, delicious food with a a really wide range of choice. All credit to the kitchen staff who work so hard and the planning which goes into this superb start of the day. We stayed for three nights in the new annex which is where breakfast is served. Our room (331) was sufficiently spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished. It would have benefited from a small chest of drawers or additional shelves to place our clothes on. Apart from that, we were very pleased with it. The room was was a good temperature throughout our stay. The lounge and bar in the main building is very pleasant and has an inviting, quirky charm. The staff we spoke with were all friendly and helpful. Can definitely recommend this well located and attractive hotel. It certainly enhanced our very enjoyable stay in Akureyri.

Famous ice cream shop Brynja is not far from hotel (walkable, though we drove. We had the 'blended' one that include 3 toppings. Taste different than ice cream in the US. I LOVE it) Breakfast has plenty: boiled/scrambled eggs, beans, bacon, sausages (I think) mixed fruit, oranges, banana (?) Yogurt, granola, raisin, nuts, etc. Plain & filled croissants, bread with various spreads, Sliced ham, salami, and cheese. Orange and other juices, coffee, and tea. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. Had no problem finding parking in front of hotel. We enjoyed our 2 nights stay!

The pods were amazing. Having your own little quiet space was just the best. They are spacious and so comfortable- I had a single and had space to store some clothing items. There are coat racks and a good storage space. It is kept clean and is lovely and welcoming. The bathroom Facilities are very modern and it’s about 12 toilet/ shower rooms. There are 2 lounge areas - kitchen and at the back of the hostel and the outdoor area is also lovely. The kitchen facilities are great too and everyone did their bit to keep it tidy. Would recommend and would stay there again

The capsule was spacious (for a tall person like me) and comfy. Every space was clean. Lovely living room to have breakfast and relax. Friendly staff. Close to every restaurant/cafe and sights. Free coffee. I truly appreciate the rule of taking off your shoes at the door and staying quiet during your stay.

The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of downtown, directly on the central pedestrian street. Bars, restaurants, shops, and the harbor are all just a few minutes’ walk away. Parking is conveniently close (1–2 minutes), though it's only free after 4 PM until 10 AM on weekdays—free all weekend. The facilities are just as impressive. The kitchen is spacious and industrial-style, with plenty of prep space, a large freezer, several tables, and even a cozy lounge area with sofas. There's also a large outdoor terrace with seating, which was a great spot to relax. Bathrooms are another highlight: they’re individual and private—not the usual large shared men's and women's facilities. They were always clean and available, though I stayed in early May, so it may have been slightly off-season. Still, I never had to wait, even during peak hours. It might be different in high summer, but for me, everything worked perfectly.

Very special and original place, I loved it! Everything was very clean, sleeping cabine is unique, private and very cozy. It was very quiet during nights and very safe, everybody just left their bags next to the sleeping place. Kitchen and dining room very nice as well, bathrooms and toilets too.. Staff very helpful and friendly. I fully recomand this place, it was extraordinary! I hope to come back next year:-)

The hostel was amazing. The staff were very polite and welcoming, and the video in the entrance area was both helpful and informative, explaining how to use the capsules. The kitchen was fully equipped, and the dining area was spacious and cozy. There were enough toilets and showers for everyone, and most importantly, everything was very clean and tidy. Coffee machine and coffee pods available. There was a small milk in the fridge that made me super happy to drink with my coffee. Bathroom is rather small but works perfeclly. Make sure you open the bathroom window a little bit when you take shower. Room is upstairs, big and confortable bed. You can park your car just outside and when you book you can book the house of yout preference that is available. The houses are just 9 minute drive away from Forest Lagoon

Amazing house, tiny but super functional and really cozy! It’s a perfect Icelandic experience and everything is nice and clean. The house is well equipped and with a stunning view on the sea. We had a perfect sleep as the bed is really confy and the surrounding is quiet and silent. Definitely recommended!

The location is close enough to Akureyri that you can quickly travel in for a meal but far enough away from town to feel like a little wild. The cabins are small but comfortable and have this perfect combo of modern and natural design -- they fit perfectly into the landscape. The space stayed warm, the wifi was strong, and the beds were comfortable. The views are beautiful, and we saw the northern lights on our first night!!

Tory Guest House exceeded my expectations in every way. The self-check-in process was seamless, and their communication was top-notch. The place was impeccably clean, and its location was perfect, with free street parking nearby. The abundance of excellent restaurants for both dinner and breakfast made my stay even more enjoyable. I wholeheartedly recommend Tory Guest House for a fantastic and hassle-free experience.

The property was really central and walkable to everything. Plenty of places to eat within minutes. Comfortable and warm rooms. There is no staff here, but we had the checkin details messaged before we arrived and all worked perfectly. Rooms are a bit small, but it’s just a place to sleep. Was a bit noisy Saturday night with people outside enjoying the night, but it’s a central location so expected. We had a great stay, and it was extremely clean, and comfortable would stay again.

Good value for iceland, clean, central, modern with espresso & cable, nearby car park on the dock is free from 6pm-10pm. Was quiet when we stayed mid week. For price we were very happy.

We loved staying at this hotel! The hotel was in a great location, was very clean and well appointed and the breakfast was not the usual cold fare found throughout Iceland. We enjoyed the breakfast! Yes, the rooms were small, but everything was very well thought out in terms of design…The room got a little stuffy at night and we really appreciated having fan in the room. It was the first hotel we have seen in Iceland that has had a fan. The small two points I would suggest for further improvement, would be some better pillows even though these were quite standard for Iceland… and maybe some plates and napkins in the room. Since there is no on-site dinner restaurant, people are likely bringing food back to the room more often during the COVID era; it would be helpful just to have some little extras to make eating easier.

Hotel Dynheimar and Hotel Akureyri are operated by the same management. This review is for the Akureyri. This hotel has very cool decor! The lobby has funky and fun furniture, a nice bar, free pool table, and plays mellow tunes. Even the hallways have cool artwork. The included breakfast was good, and the restaurant fare is reported to be great (it was booked up a day in advance so we couldn't try it out tho). I would recommend that breakfast diners also consider carrying their plates to the nearby lobby to eat, as the dedicated dinning area is quite small and fills up quickly. The lobby is awesome so enjoy this option! Tip:The surrounding area and town are very walkable, and there is a beautiful botanical garden at the top of the hill with an awesome cafe. Check it out if the weather is good!

Was lovely to stay there. Very friendly stuff!!! Parking was just in front of the hotel, the buffet for breakfast was great as well and the rooms were clean and very cosy. Especially the rooms were amazing and full of details which made it feel like a home. A lot of creativity went into each room for sure!

During our entire stay in Iceland (so far), this has been the best hotel - professional, helpful staff, very comfortable and clean room, great bed and big pillows, clean bathroom, great location (near shops and restaurants) and plenty of free nearby parking

A beautiful apartment well equipped for those who wish to cook and short stay while in Akureyri. A Clean and quiet place. Airport is less than 10 mins from the apartment and taxi cost about ISK 2000. Stanley the manager is friendly and helped with tours, skiing. My hiking shoes sole gave away and thanks to the guide from Stanley, manage to get it to a cobbler nearby and have it fixed before my trip to Lake Myvatin the next day. The only thing that did not work for us in the apartment is the dryer. It is a 2 in 1 washing cum dryer machine. While there were an instruction booklet but it was complicated. Perhaps some simple steps to help users. Thanks you Stanley we had a fun time during the stay including skiing and appreciate you and teams’s hospitality. Highly recommended place to stay!

This place was amazing. We were arriving late and I called (the phone numbers on google, website and expedia for here should be upgraded but that's minor. A guy named Gudbjorn answered. I wasn't receiving his emails for the check in instructions (due to an issue with my email). He was so patient and eventually sent me a text with all the info. He was amazing (thank you). Cozy, modern, comfortable and well equipped loft. Located in the town centre, you have all you need near. Don't forget to pay for the street parking during the weekdays, on weekends it's free of charge. Key safe is always a great idea, especially for those who can't provide check-in time in advance or want to come in the middle of the night. The upper bed space is a bit too small, you have to be careful, but the sleep quality is still perfect.

Located right in the centre of town, this little apartment was fantastic. Spotlessly clean,well equipped kitchen, large living area, washing machine/dryer, really comfortable beds...couldn't fault it. The staff in the Icewear shop downstairs (who manage the units) were exceptional...really friendly and far more helpful than the Tourist Bureau!! And a great little bakery next door for brekky. Hopefully one day we'll get back there!

The property was very easy to find with the provided instructions/photos. We used the paid parking lot across the street (it's free after 4 PM). The apartment was very spacious with lots of natural light. It was comfortable and very clean, and centrally located to several restaurants and attractions. We booked the apartment to do laundry during our 2-week trip. Being from the States, we had a hard tine figuring out how to use the washer/dryer combo, and ended up just hanging our clothes to dry (which ultimately took a couple days). My only suggestion would be to maybe have brief instructions available for foreigners that aren't used to a washer/dryer combo. Otherwise, everything was perfect!

Location could not be more central than that. Everything in the city is in minutes walk distance away. The apartment is super clean, neat, and equipped with (almost) everything you could need to feel like home! A really nice change of pace compared to staying only at hotels. We could make a delicious dinner ourselves and watch a movie on the TV connecting my laptop to it via HDMI. The owners were also very kind and sent us clear and detailed instructions (you don't see them during your stay). Self-checkin is a nice bonus as well. PS: Apologies again for breaking one of your plates 😄

Saga Apts...A beautiful facility in the heart of Akueryri. Everything is walkable along with it being a great home base for enjoying all things the north of Iceland has to offer. The apt was spacious, clean and well equipped. I particularly loved the balcony over looking the main shopping street in Akueryri. Upon return to Iceland we will book this property again. I give them 6 out of 5 stars. Loved it!

The included breakfast buffet was terrible...not because of the food selection, that was fine...more because they were not keeping up with things: we arrived around 820am, restaurant was approximately 30% full....coffee ran out twice in the 30 mins we were there and was not refilled without asking staff to provide more coffee, tables were not being cleaned by staff and we saw many customers placing plates on other tables/the bar and cleaning the tables themselves before sitting down, food was running out repeatedly across many of the dishes being served and staff again were very slow to respond....the guy that was dressed as a chef seemed to be the only one hustling to get things straightened out...the other staff didn't seemed very concerned. Not a great experience.

Enjoyed another warm and comfortable stay in the heart of Akureyri. Lovely friendly hotel, very comfortable rooms. Great bar and restaurant on site and close to others in town, as well as other attractions all in walking distance. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Really helpful staff. Hope to stay here again, had a very relaxing stay.

Great central location, close to restaurants, bars, shops. Amazing views from the room we had, looking across to the Fjord. The room was comfortable and a good size. Breakfast had lots of choice, well prepared and staff were attentive.

The location was perfect. Right on the walking areas for shops and restaurants. Clean and quiet area. Our room was very comfortable and the room darkening shades worked really well. Front desk staff were friendly and very helpful, lobby bar staff were also great.

We have stayed at the Kea on 4 separate occasions now, firstly during Jan/Feb 2024 and most recently in Jan/Feb 2025 and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Located at the centre of Akureyri, the capitol of the north, and only a few meters from the fjord and the magnificent Lutheran church, the Kea is ideally located. The rooms are comfortable, light and airy, some with balconies. The bar is well stocked with a good selection of Icelandic beer and spirits from around the globe, the restaurant and bistro have a good selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel staff are also superb and super helpful, including booking outside restaurants, taxis, etc, they even looked after the bulk of our luggage while we made a couple of two day trips to Grimsey and Husavik, definitely a 5 star service.

The apt is located about ~12 kms from the Akureyri town center, in case if you to decide to have a meal out. The apt has 2 good sized bedrooms with double beds, living area and a kitchen with all the essentials. The owners are very thoughtful and have understood the needs of tourists well. As we arrived quite late in the night, we missed to buy milk for our tea/breakfast in the morning. Thankfully they had stocked a small long life milk carton in the kitchen cupboard, which came in handy for us in the morning. It was the only place in Iceland during our trip, that offered milk and also had a washing machine/dryer for guests to use free of charge. Wish we had stayed longer and also used the hot tub outside :-) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the apt after a long day of driving from the east.

the apartment was amazing. so clean, comfortable, and had an amazing view. it was just a 5 minute drive from the Forest Lagoon. very quiet and private. they had a washer and dryer for us to use which was a huge plus! definitely stay here. :)

This place was amazing! Clean, spacious and beautiful! The views were spectacular! While we didn’t see any whales, others have spotted them from the apartment. We did catch the gorgeous sunset past midnight on our first night there. The beds were comfortable and they also had a shared washer and dryer which we desperately needed. It was also not too far from Akureyri (about 15 mins).

Great view of fjord, very peaceful, modern clean interior. Comfy bed, nice bathroom and a washing machine and dryer. Two bedrooms but we only used one.

A good place to stay for several days. We came here after 4 days of our Iceland journey and stayed there for 3 days. Comfortable, 3room modern-style apartment with a nice view. We also liked to listen Icelandic music on CDs that were there in the evenings. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary things. Comfortable beds. There were even binoculars for whale or birds observing! Not so far from Husavik, Myvatn and Dalvic (we recommend Myvatn Nature Baths instead Blue Lagoon)

Just a 10 minute walk to the buzzing downtown. The guesthouse was clean and tidy and though we weren’t in Akureyri long, we appreciated staying In a walkable location with coffee in the morning.

Clean room and communal areas, comfortable bedding with sufficient heating. Kitchen was perfect.

This structure was very convenient for us and I would recommend it to anyone who is planning to stay in Akureyri in a place with great value for money. Noting too fancy but everything was very clean and comfortable.

We absolutely loved the location of course! The bar/restaurant downstairs is a really cool spot, and the staff was very friendly. If you just need a clean, affordable place to stay in the downtown area, this is a perfect choice. :) We have nothing bad to say - everything was clean and well-maintained.

On the "main street" in town, a big old building with a really good bar and restaurant on the ground floor; I wasn't expecting five craft beers and, with the afternoon happy hour, they were relatively cheap! I was in a room on the 4th (top) floor, lots of stairs but fine by me. Room was clean, big and comfortable, very modern and clean toilets next door, heating was great too in the snow... everything was very good.

I had the double room. It is very basic, a bed, a small table with 2 chairs, 2 bedside tables, a bin, a mirror on the wall and some hooks for hanging clothes. The bed was very comfortable, you can adjust the heating to your liking so my room was always comfortably warm. The shared toilet facilities on my floor (3rd floor) were great...clean and always stocked. I cannot comment on food or the showers as I did not use those options. But the showers are accessible next to the bar, but you will have to go down the stairs and past the restaurant/bar to get there. Be aware this is a hostel and it will get very noisy on a Saturday night, there is no soundproofing. Bit the Sunday and Monday I had the floor to myself so it was quiet. Overall I had a good stay there. If you book any tours with a pickup service, they will pick you up outside the entrance. And do have a hotdog or two from the van down the road, they are good!

The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room, even though almost laughably empty, was clean and beds incredibly comfortable - especially after we were supplied with extra pillows. Restaurant serves tasty food in a lively atmosphere.

The views were stunning! It was an experience to stay in this cozy, colourful and clean yurt. It’s quite a hike up a steep hill from where you park your car and I can recommend just packing a small bag for the night. It depends on the yurt you have, we had the furthest one on the hill (with the best view). The toilet facilities were super clean. The bed was sooo comfortable and the breakfast just right for us.

It was such a special experience to spend the night in the Yurt, and quite an adventurous one. The tent is super cozy and solid (despite the strong wind outside, we slept comfortably all the night through) and it is always challenging in a good way to try and stay without electricity and WiFi for a few hours. As advertised, the common bathrooms don't come with a shower, but we had free access to a public swimming pool downtown, which was also an appreciated bonus. The breakfast left for us in the Yurt, was rich and super yummy. The walk up to the tent was actually shorter and easier than expected, and the view on the town and fjord was just priceless. Totally recommended!

We had an amazing stay at Iceland Yurts! The location is breathtaking, offering stunning views that made our visit unforgettable. The yurt itself was incredibly cozy, providing a unique and comfortable experience. The owners were fantastic—always easy to reach via chat and very helpful with local tips and information. We highly recommend staying here for anyone looking to experience Iceland in a special way!

Loved the fact that we could grill get outside and grill burgers. The yurt was very clean, spacious and comfortable for the four of us. We also really enjoyed the location in relation to the city and with the amazing views.

Honestly, I had one of the best sleeps of my life in this yurt! It was so quiet and peaceful to be surrounded by nature. The bed was so comfortable and it was really cool to fall asleep to the sound of a crackling fire:) Then to awake to a gorgeous & sunny day with stunning views of the surrounding mountains?? A rustic dream! I also enjoyed building the fire inside the stove. It takes a bit of time for the yurt to warm up after you start the fire so keep that in mind when you’re planning your arrival time. Chatted with one of the staff who was very pleasant and friendly!
