We upgraded to the Solway suite for our 2 night stay and it was beautiful. The room was so big and comfortable and it was lovely and warm during our winter weekend stay. There was a jacuzzi bath and a big rainfall shower. We got room service one of the evenings and ate in the restaurant on the other evening and the food and service was perfect. Couldn't fault anything. Although there were Christmas functions on both nights, we couldn't hear anything from our room.

All staff were friendly, efficient and incredibly helpful during our stay. Nothing was any trouble at all. We got married at nearby Gretna and decided to spend a few days before and after at Hetland Hall and I'm so glad we made this choice! The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the surroundings are quiet and peaceful. We dined there as well as having breakfast and the food was absolutely delicious. Eggs benedict cooked to perfection! Reception, bar, restaurant and housekeeping staff were all so cheery, welcoming and helpful. We appreciated the complimentary bottle of fizz with our meal after our wedding ceremony, we had chosen to have a very intimate and understated wedding day, but staff at Hetland made it special for us. Thank you all! Special thanks to Cheryl who kindly took us to Annan railway station when we struggled to get a taxi when we decided to have a day in Carlisle while we were there too, it was so good of her to take us at the end of her breakfast shift.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Rooms are very comfortable and very clean. We had a fantastic meal in the restaurant and the quality and presentation of the breakfast was very good. There is a very good selection on both the breakfast and dinner menu. The restaurant staff are very attentive and helpful and every member of the housekeeping team met us with a smile and a good morning

Hetland Hall is located close to Dumfries a little way off the main road. It is a lovely building in a lovely setting - there is a huge garden and a short walk uphill offers spectacular views of the Solway Firth and - on a clear day - the Lake District. Staff are helpful and friendly. We had a pleasant meal in the restaurant and again a pleasant breakfast. Our room, towards the rear of the building, was quiet. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. There is both a bath and a shower - always nice to have both.

Our room was spacious and very comfortable. A very large bathroom with bath and shower and two sinks. Nice heavy curtains to keep the light out! We both slept very well, it was so peaceful and quiet. Dinner was absolutely delicious and we’d really recommend having dinner here. Breakfast was also delicious with a good selection. The property can accommodate dogs as there were several guests staying with their dogs. Would really recommend staying here and would love to visit again if we get the chance.

Stayed here for one night with my husband. There’s a nice looking entrance as you head up the driveway and pull into a large car park. Inside we found the hotel to be well maintained and tastefully decorated. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. We were given a quiet, spacious room with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Food was pleasantly traditional - tasty evening meal that had a home cooked vibe, breakfast was just as good with a nice selection of options on offer. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming, we had a very comfortable stay and would happily return.

The situation was lovely, situated in beautifully maintained parkland and very quiet. The room was lovely, a good size with opening though secure windows, a big comfortable bed, 2 cosy armchairs, lots of hanging/storage space and a nice bathroom. Very relaxing. And the dinner was sensational, with lots of choice for my coeliac husband, nice wine by the glass, and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was good too. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful

Staff at the hotel were universally friendly with and welcoming, making our stay very enjoyable. The refurbished rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, as was dinner, and we felt that the latter was excellent value for money. The location is beautiful and peaceful. This is a traditional hotel offering warm hospitality at a fair price.

Lovely location, beautiful house. Very nicely decorated with the gorgeous fireplace in the lobby and the Harris Tweed sofas in the lounge. Nice artworks on the walls too. The room was spacious and comfortable. The man on reception who greeted us was very friendly and welcoming. He made us feel comfortable and also assured us how pet friendly the hotel is. I asked in the special instructions if we could have a room with a bath and was really pleased they were able to do this. The breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay again.

Out stay was in the Annexe. An outbuilding attached to the side of the house, which offered a large modern room with ensuite facilities. Double and single bed, beautifully clean, fresh linen, white fluffy towels. Ideal for families. This accommodation had three stairs up to it, perfect for me whose mobility is compromised. There's everything you need in this room. Toiletries, fresh clean towels, hairdryer, iron/board, loads of tea and coffee with a couple of packs of buiscuits, long mirror. Breakfast: Breakfast was first class! Hot food pre ordered the previous day. There's something for everyone with top quality produce. Self-serve cereals, fresh coffee, or instant,whatever your preferences, orange juice, etc. The owner, Colin, really cares about providing a fantastic product. Theres little details which I find welcoming. The bathroom glasses with protective clear hygiene bags over them and prepacked Clinell Wipes, breakfast tables stocked with everything you need, cutlery, napkins, and Clinell wipes laid out inside the hygiene bags also. I found staff here to be polite and helpful. Housekeeping was good, Colin was making the outside look top notch with beautiful flowers during our stay, which is always a welcomed bonus. There's a patio with seating to relax in.

Dumfries Villa is a really lovely cozy place. It is very close to the centre. The room is clean and the breakfast was delicious. The stuff (I guess it is a family) is so nice and helpful. Very friendly people there and the girls made a perfect breakfast for us. Thank you.

The room was spacious, clean and cozy and equipped with a kettle, tea&coffee, hairdryer, iron and iron board. The bathroom had a small sink but with a new nice shower and completed with soap, shower gel, shampoo and towels. The breakfast was very good. The B&B is located very close to the centre but in a quiet aerea.

We had a lovely big room on the front of this lovely old building with fireplace. Plenty of room with small shower and toilet. It was very quiet and comfortable. It is situated in Dumfries with easy walking to the shops. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices for all. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It also has parking on site.

Thank you very much for your hospitality! Amazing beautiful house and garden. Large clean room with comfortable bed. Great location close to the center and train station. Very quiet and peaceful. Highly recommended Hotel I can see why it has such a superb reputation staff are so helpful and friendly hotel is kept in pristine condition. We had dinner both nights in the the restaurant the roast pork dinner was one of the best I've had. We had breakfast every morning which was also a delight with nice fresh coffee and a good cooked breakfast. Just like to say thank you to the friendly staff. Clark and Ralph.

We had a wonderful time. The room was lovely, big and clean, vast choice of food for breakfast, kind and welcoming staff. The dinner we had at the restaurant was delicious, they also let us keep our dog with us while dining and having breakfast. Special mention: our dog was spoiled by the staff, cuddled and so very welcome.

Lovely hotel and grounds in a very peaceful location situated on the outskirts of the town, its only a 10min walk to the centre of Lockerbie itself and a 2min drive from the motorway Room was very spacious and clean, we had a really nice breakfast which was plentiful and kept you going for most of the day Staff were very warm and friendly with nothing ever a problem. We would definitely stay here again as had such a relaxing pleasant stay and would highly recommend to others Should also state that due to Covid this was the Hotels first weekend after being allowed to re-open and think the staff coped with it admirably

I had requested a slightly bigger room when booking and was pleasantly surprised. I travel every week and usually end up in rooms in which you could not swing a hamster (Pls note I won't physically be swinging any animals!). This room in Somerton could easily accommodate a cat in each hand. The shower room was equally accommodating and the bed firm but comfortable. The amenities in the room were adequate although I did not use the coffee/tea on offer and only satisfied my midnight snack urges with the tasty biscuits on offer. The breakfast was hearty and filling, the coffee pot was nice and hot and smiles all around.

Perfect location ! Quiet but near the town centre. On site free parking. We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome on arrival, Terry & Lynne genuinely want all guests to feel comfortable and enjoy their stay. (King sized room) Lovely clean rooms, especially liked the dressing area between the bedroom and bathroom. Plenty of storage space. Bed was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. The room is well equipped with TV, hairdryer, extra blankets a fan, tea & coffee etc. Bathroom was spotless and had little added extras, robes and toiletries. Breakfast was delicious. Haggis was my favourite! I think these ones were caught, fresh daily… in a net of course as it’s summertime. The owners and staff were more than happy to help at anytime. We managed to find the secret beach that was recommended to us and had a fantastic day there, even went for a swim! Thank you so much for a wonderful memorable stay. We hope to stay again soon :)

Hosts were very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable which overlooked the long drive to a main road. Tea/coffee making facilities with biscuits and small bowl of sweets placed in room. Breakfast was served each morning with a good variety of choice. Nice bar for relaxing in evening A short walk to River Nith. Near railway station to Gretna Green and Carlisle. Dumfries main area is a bit run down, but overall not a bad short break.

I recently stayed at The Hill Hotel and I must say, it was a truly delightful experience. From the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out, the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. Overall, I would highly recommend The Hill Hotel to anyone looking for a welcoming and cozy stay.

Terry and Lynne Hawkins were great hosts and very welcoming. The location is an easy walk to downtown Dumfries. The hotel is on a spacious lot with an on-site pub and outside seating areas. Beds were comfortable; breakfast was delicious. The hotel is spotless and comfortable in every way. Hosts stop to chat during breakfast or whenever they see you out and about. Ample on-site parking. We were made to feel right at home. Lynne even gave us advice on visiting the local library for help with our geneology search.

Fabulous place to stay, highly recommend. The owners Terry & Lynn were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were lovely, and spacious along with really big shower room. Bed really comfortable. Whole place was spotless. Lynn cooked a mean breakfast and poached eggs were perfect.

The room was exceptionally clean with a very large comfortable bed. It was very quiet and peaceful with fields at the rear of the property. The bathroom was fairly large with a bath and a powerful power shower. The hot water was always hot. The room had a flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and tea/coffee making facilities. A guest kitchen was also available if you needed it. There was also more milk and tea/coffee sachets if needed. The breakfast was superb with the sausage being especially tasty. The host Ewan was pleasant and helpful throughout our visit.

The location is central yet a bit on the side, makes it quiet and cozy. The host is super nice and makes you feel as if you are at home. The breakfast was amazing, tasty and most importantly again felt like I was being served at home. The whole place is clean and comfortable. The view is soothing to the eyes, you wake up to all green in front, which was amazing.

Felt relaxed and at ease throughout. Very comfy bed, pillows, and quilt (spares if needed, as well as a fan and heater). Large TV with the use of Netflix in room. Plenty space for clothes, great relaxing view from our window. Modern spacious bathroom with bath and shower. Thick, clean, soft white towels and bed linen. Guest kitchen to use if needed with a large fridge freezer, washing machine, cups, plates, crockery, etc. Very plesant host who made us the best full English breakfast each morning. Great location for what we needed, golf courses nearby and shopping mal. Handy chinese takeaway only 2 minutes drive away, as well as pizza places, Italian, chippy and pubs, only about 10 minute drives. Parking on-site. Would definitely stay here again if visiting the area.

The location was fairly close to the motorway and there was lots of easy parking . The property has amazing views and the guest lounge and kitchen were very comfortable and well equipped . Our room was spotless with a powerful shower …very welcome after a long journey ! Ewan was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. we had fantastic views of the countryside while we ate a scrumptious breakfast . Thank you much Ewan and we would love to stay again . The forest of Ae is minutes away and a great place to walk or cycle .

Property is in quiet location surrounded by beautiful countryside and is immaculate throughout. The host is very welcoming and helpful. Has own guest kitchen which is fully equipped to high standard. The room was nicely done, HUGE comfy king size bed with all the standard amenities. Shower was spotless and in good working order. They offer both continental and cooked breakfast with a lot of variety. Plenty of private parking also which was nice.

This hotel was very clean, staff very attentive. The loch view from our bedroom (room 4) was exceptional and that it had a decking area outside to the loch which was especially great for our dog. This hotel was a truly dog friendly with dogs allowed in all areas including the dining room for dinner and breakfast. ROOM. Very Clean, beds very comfortable - Only Negative was the location of the light switches on the headboard as they were very high and could not be reached if in bed. BATHROOM Excellent shower. VIEW. AMAZING - Was not expecting this when booked room. A lochside view. If the stay was longer would have tried the jet-ski's which you can hire for £30 an hour which includes wet suit and life jacket.

On arrival staff were very friendly and helpful and this continued throughout our stay. We upgraded to a Loch View and were not disappointed, the room was lovely, very clean and well set out and to walk out onto the balcony for the view of the Loch was amazing. We had an evening meal in the restaurant again with beautiful views of the Loch, good choice of food on the menu and what we ordered was delicious. We both had the Scottish breakfast the next morning which was also delious with plenty of juices, fruit and cereal to choose from too. Will definately return now we've found this little gem and will be recommending to friends.

We had a triple room, with large balcony, which had lovely views over the loch. The hotel is right next to the road so there is some traffic noise but was not an issue for us. We sat outside enjoying the beautiful views. Our room was spotlessly clean, comfy beds and great walk in shower. The staff were brilliant, so friendly and helpful. Food was amazing, so much choice at dinner (although big portions!), breakfast also plenty of choice and nice to eat with such lovely views. Location is great, close to Dumfries and Castle Douglas.

Stopped for a night on the way to Ben Nevis..... The rooms were clean and kept to a good standard - located across from the Bar/Restaurant in a separate building. Our room had a lovely balcony with view across the Loch. The Bar/Restaurant was pleasant also with views across the Loch, we ate at the restaurant in the evening food was good pub grub with a fair selection of drinks. Breakfast was even better and would defo recommend. Staff were also very friendly and helpful at all times.

Great location, extremely comfortable bed in spacious room. Most delicious roast beef dinner at the restaurant - best I’ve ever had!! (Good prices for dinner & drinks too). Lovely view from restaurant. Great breakfast & service. Location was convenient to highway but so quiet (must be double/triple glazed windows?) and close to Dumfries & Caerlaverlock Castle. Would definitely stay again & highly recommend.

We were warmly welcomed by the owners and shown our accommodation. Our room was absolutely lovely. Up to date decor, very spacious and very clean. Fabulous comfy bed, great shower and we also got complimentary tea,coffee& biscuits. It really was better than quite a few hotels we’ve stayed in! The pub was a warm, happy, inviting place to sit & have a meal. The meals were absolutely delicious and big portions!! But I still managed to fit in a dessert! Breakfast was fab- again big portions and once again delicious. Thanks very much for a very enjoyable stay, we will most definitely recommend you and when back up this way we’ll stop with you again.

The Farmers in was very clean and comfortable. In quiet surroundings. The bed was very comfy, great hot shower too The hosts were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had a lovely home cooked meal in the evening and the Breakfast was very tasty

Greeted on arrival by the owners Found my room to be expansive and well quipped with a large comfortable bed.The shower/bathroom was nicely furnished and the shower itself was very powerful making for an invigorating experience.There was a large hd television in the room with access to Netflix which was a pleasant surprise.The wi fi was fast and easily accessible.The owners were charming being very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the local area.Both the dinner and breakfast menu was extensive with lots of choices all at a very reasonable price.The food when served was of a very good quality and portion size was large.The bar was very well stocked and again very well priced.The owners certainly make you feel very welcome and I will certainly return here in the future when work dictates.A very enjoyable one night stay providing excellent value.

This accomadation was clean , staff & locals very friendly . Colin and Jackie were great hosts and always had time for a chat . Had three meals at the inn and everyone was delicious. The last night we had 6 adults and 5 children with us and they all enjoyed starters to desserts . Breakfast was juice , cereal, tea , toast . And a full breakfast . Lovely tasty bacon . 5 star breakfast . Only thing if you were not an early riser breakfast was from 8am to 8.30am. But that wasn’t a problem for us . Would definitely book again if in that area .

We loved this Inn. It was just what we were looking for as far as historical feel. The traditional Scottish dinner and breakfast were delicious and the owners were very friendly. The room was very comfortable. And the bathroom and shower were amazing - heated towels, modern fixtures in a traditional venue. Highly recommend!

Lovely hotel on the edge of Dumfries, set in beautiful parkland, ideal for attending functions at Easterbrook Hall. The rooms were spacious, and clean with really comfortable beds. Much to my surprise the air conditioning worked in winter, as well as efficient heating. Windows open too for fresh air, very little noise in this area. Everything in the room as described on IHG website. Bathroom was clean too with a lovely supply of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, full of natural ingredients made by 'Soak superfood skincare'. The staff were really helpful and friendly both on the front desk and in the restaurant where the manager checked with the chef for allergens on the breakfast buffet (great value breakfast as they had a special deal on that weekend). The hotel is about 30 minutes walk (directly) Dumfries town centre, with an hourly bus service in the daytime. Alternatively for a longer scenic walk, take a walk through the parkland towards the river and follow the river into town. I would definitely use the hotel again.

We had an overnight stay here as we were visiting relatives in Mountainhall hospital. I booked through booking.com, and had to move the date due to Storm Eowyn. Booking.com said the hotel refused, but when I called up directly and explained, it was no problem at all. Very accomodating. On arrival late in the evening, it wasn't entirely obvious where to park or where the main entrance is, but we found it fairly quickly. Reception was welcoming and efficient. Room was warm and clean. We arrived after 9pm and even through the restaurant was shut, they kindly made us some lovely fresh Pizza as we'd not had dinner. Again, very accomodating. Thanks go to Robyn and the chef on evening 31st Feb. Room was spacious, everything you'd expect, and the toilet/shower facilities in the room were great. Room 19 was quiet and had a lovely view in the morning over to the church in the park. Lovely grounds and plenty of walking opportunities. Breakfast in the morning was standard fare for any Holiday Inn or Premier Inn, nothing exciting, but good enough and plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all, would stay again.

I had an executive room: large, airy, modern in style with a big bed, sofa, armchair and table and work station. All very comfy and a stylish throw on the bed. Fluffy bathrobe and nice little slippers. The bathroom has both a large bath and separate shower, refillable toiletries. The restaurant / bar is in the old part of the building, a real country house feel. Menu is decent bistro style and there is a long wine list. Breakfast is a typical combination of hot and cold buffet. Tea and coffee as you would expect in the room plus complimentary water and Mars bars. Ironic? Staff are incredibly helpful and accommodating. My only grouse was the internet being quite variable in stability which was frustrating from a work point of view. However overall this was a very nice stay.

This hotel was a great place to stay overnight on our way up to the Highlands! We checked in late and was greeted nicely by a member of staff. Our room was an executive room, really big, massive bath and shower, bathroom really clean. Chocolate bars and water in the fridge to consume. Bed was a super king and really comfortable. Kids in the sofa bed, slept well, many pillows to help make them extra comfortable. Breakfast room was in a really nice area in the older part of the building and breakfast was so plentiful, lots of options and everything available, a peaceful, quiet experience, we did get in there early morning. Would stay here again and definitely recommend. Great value for money, a family room on a Friday night around £70/80 and that included breakfast! Amazing!

A clean, comfortable hotel 1 1/2 miles from Dumfries town centre set in beautiful grounds. Very attractive and peaceful. Rooms clean and comfortable, with air conditioning, excellent shower. The breakfast was the best I have ever eaten. I have eaten many breakfasts, some of them in hotels much swankier and more expensive than this. This blew them all out of the park. From the home made granola with stiff organic yoghurt to the freshly baked bread with home made jam and the best marmalade I've tasted to the delicious full Scottish with unbelievably creamy scrambled eggs, I cannot praise this breakfast enough. I'm very sad that I was not able to finish it, just due to the generous quantities, as that meant I needed to stop eating it. There were lots of other good things too. There were yummy home baked biscuits in the room, and also a map of a walk you could do right from the hotel (which we did, and it was a good walk). The staff were friendly and attentive without being annoyingly persistent, which is a hard balance to strike. The hotel itself is beautiful, and there's a lovely lounge with squishy sofas to sit on. Our room was comfy and cosy. Dinner was also delicious. It was just great. Go stay.

What an absolute hidden gem! Spent the night with my partner for a little getaway. The night started with a lovely welcome and a trip straight to the private garden hot tub and sauna with the delicious house cocktails (you need to pre book it but, it's a definite must for couples). Watching the fog roll over the hills as the rain pattered around us while we were nice and toasty getting a jet massage was wonderfully tranquil. We then had a wonderful dinner and a drink in the bar before we retired for the evening. The food was absolutely exquisite as was the service. The rooms we traditional with a massive comfy bed, large shower, TV and beautiful views over the garden from the first floor. Best nights sleep I've had in a while. Enjoyed a wonderful breakfast then had a massage that left me feeling indescribably good. A wonderful experience from the second we got there til the second we left. Felt like a home away from home. Will definitely be back.

I choose this hotel for being dog friendly and for an overnight stopover on the way north to the Scottish highlands. Arriving in the yard behind the house, was a sink and hose designated for washing muddy paws, even offering to supply hot water and shampoo on request. The characterful house is set in a well maintained colourful garden, surrounded by fields and woodland. Everything about our stay was excellent - helpful, friendly staff, convivial bar, delicious food and fellow guests travelling with dogs( who appeared to far outweigh the other guests) and comfortable room (dog bowl filled with treats provided) The best - doggy breakfast menu - sausage, eggs etc - sums up our stay at this wonderful hotel. Ps - the owners were just as well cared for.

Breakfast was lovely, again the dining room warm and welcoming and food lovely and fresh. Our lovely host at breakfast ( I feel awful but we didn't get his name) made us so welcome, chatting like old friends and giving us lots of ideas as to where to go and what to see. Our lovely lady who looked after our room ( again I am so sorry we didn't get her name) always had a lovely smile for us in the morning and again made us feel so welcome. I honestly cannot praise Rivendell and the team enough. We felt so at home there and already looking forward to our next visit which will be very soon.

Comfortable, clean, pretty, handy, tasty and good value. All round a good choice on several fronts. Pleasant staff who smiled and served me my breakfast promptly on a Sunday morning. Close to town, quiet and charming. A comfortable bed and an immaculately clean shower room with a great walk-in shower. I was in a rear room with its own direct access door and I could park right close to the room. I was pleasantly glad to have chosen Rivendell, because there were a lot of unkind and critical reviews and frankly they seem very unfair given the quality of this guest house, the kind service of staff. I would stay again without any hesitation and think it suits any type of visitor, singles, couples or with a family. Nice smart gardens and ample parking.

We liked everything about Rivendell The room was spotless,there was an ample supply of Coffee Tea, Milk ,Sugar,and even 2 bottles of water. There were even two types of biscuits. We booked a suite and was very happy with the room, the bed was comfortable and it had a great view. a massive Jacuzzi bath, only downside is toilet door didn't fully close. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel for the 3 days we were there and most of the food was really great, menu changed daily and a lot of options. The huge amount of grounds meant it was a very quiet, peaceful location, very safe for our motorbikes and the hotel had picnic options, which we took advantage of one one day and had a beautiful picnic by the river, perfect! The staff were always so helpful and the bar has a nice variety of whiskeys and spirits that we sampled as many as possible.

Upon booking, one was remembered from my previous "Sojourn" in March, and was messaged informing I was to be allocated the same room as last time! Fantastic stuff, as it looked over to the front grounds and river and I could people watch people from the window! in the morning before I myself went off on my usual travails!! Also that the staff were the same when on duty and they tried to allocate my usual table at Dinner, so one could people watch! I was also very surprised on 1st morning in time I'd went and been to breakfast my actual whole bedding had been changed. As I'm usually tidy and know the Housekeeping have their work cut out. On the Sunday, 3rd evening, as in the bath the room phone rang, and upon appearing for my pre-dinner lager, the receptionist had said they'd call to enquire if I was still dining in the evening, as I was later back to hotel than day before. (Although upon checking in I did say I'd be dining 7.45-8pm!. Great for the concern though, as one had been stuck behind a very slow car on the way back!!! to hotel. It was the usual friendly "Couthy", cosy hug of a stay, friendly staff and comfort and met some lovely people, although no Great Hall Fire, as being end of June, spent most pre-evening dinner lager and finishing of wine in cosy bar in comfortable winged chair. We played how to get the subtitles off the bar/lounge TV, gladly that was rectified on the 2nd evening!!

The hotel building is stunning, beautifully decorated and the rooms very spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and instantly made us feel at home. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both of which were good quality, well cooked and good value for money. The grounds are beautiful too, perfect for a walk around after dinner. Would highly recommend Friars Carse to anyone wanting a base from which to explore the local area and for a quiet relaxing stay in lovely surroundings.

Second time at Friars Carse Country hotel and it didn't disappoint us.Room was very comfortable and clean and the view from the windows stunning.Staying just a night but we felt so relaxed because it's so peaceful there and you can only wake up by the birds singing.The surroundings are amazing .The walk along the river is so enjoyable and we loved watching the quinea fowls and also the male pheasant .Breakfast was so fresh and the ingredients were so tasty.Therefore ,I can say it worths every single penny we spent to stay here.We ll be back at some point in the future.Thank you so much.

Well thought out, wonderfully put together with everything from comfortable king size bed, quality bedding, plenty storage and lighting in the room, en suite with the shower, sink and toilet was immaculate and well presented, shower gel and hand soap provided. Refreshments tray was plentiful with tea,cofee,hot chocolate and biscuits. Theres a hairdryer, drawers contained a variety of books on the history of Dumfries and things to do whilst staying in the area. Theres also a folder and other information for your stay on the hotel rules and regulations to keep your stay safe and answer any queries you may have. Breakfast is in a room which faces the car park and part of the back of the bowling green next door. Its beautifully decorated and has a livingroom area with fireplace just as you walk in, so relaxing looking. The breakfast itself is ordered the evening before which was no problem. Theres a cooked breakfast and porridge if you like too, I recommend both! Fresh tea,coffee, fresh orange juice, fresh apple juice, all chilled and ready to help yourself. The quality of produce was excellent! We stayed only one night but re looking forward to returning soon! Altogether, very enjoyable stay!

Lovely place to stay very friendly and welcoming hosts. Close to town and amenties. Lovely linen clean and tidy. Nice warm blankets, tv coffee etc. You are then provided with a full cooked breakfast which was very tasty. Plenty of parking. Hosts were very helpful maps brochures etc. I would highly recommend Hamilton House for your stay.

Really good place for a stopover, efficient, friendly service and comfortable stay all round. Breakfast was excellent, attentive owner without being overbearing, delicious fry up and fresh juice. Short walk into Dumfries and the river, places of historical interest Inc Burns related. Would highly recommend!

The hosts were very welcoming. The room was cleaned to the highest standard. Shower, bed linen, towels were 1st class. Ample supplies of tea and coffee including Decaf. Large TV in the room along with China mugs! Had a great nights sleep. Cooked breakfast was plentiful and so tasty. Breakfast Cereals, porridge, fruits, yoghurts and fruit juice available too. Nothing was much too much trouble would have no hesitation in coming back here.

Visited for a last minute break on Hogmanay for 2 nights with my partner for his birthday and our dog. Staff were very friendly, dogs are only allowed in one of the bars, the Hogmanay party was in the upstairs bar, as the dog was not allowed there, we stayed downstairs in the bar, the manager sent us down champagne at the bells and allowed us to go to the buffet for food, even though we hadn’t bought a ticket for the event. The other days we had our food in the dog friendly bar, food was great, full cooked breakfast, other options were available, and for dinner we opted for home made steak pie, again there were many options to choose from. Location was good for long walks, nature reserve close by. Room was small but had everything we needed, bed was comfy and clean.

The owner and staff were welcoming and friendly and took time to chat even though they were busy it being New years eve. The room was perfect and extremely clean and comfortable. There was a band on which we got tickets for, we tried a bit of traditional Scottish dancing which was hilarious trying to learn ( not as easy as it looks!) . The breakfast was absolutely perfect, plentiful and tasty. We will definitely return.

Theres flat screen tv with LOADS of channels, mirror, desk and chair, your refreshments tea/coffee/hot chocolate, condiments and a few pre packed bickies! Iron and board, also hairdryer. The ensuite was bright, tiled and very clean with a shower cubicle. A good size sink and toilet, narrow glass shelf with complimentary shower gel etc. My only gripe was I had nowhere to place my clothes etc, theres no shelf,hooks or anywhere for this. The price of the room included a wholesome breakfast and pre ordered porridge made with milk! The breakfast was buffet style and absolutely adequate for everyone with cereals, yoghurt, full scottish, toast and jams etc. I will return here.

Decent hotel and what we expected for the price! It was in an ideal location for us, not too far from the centre. Plenty of parking spaces too. The room and ensuite bathroom were clean and comfortable. The bed was a little hard for my siblings, but perfect for me, with comfy pillows and a warm duvet. There was an older style heater in the room (not radiator) which worked well enough and kept the room a good temperature! Breakfast was standard - a buffet style, help yourself to eggs, sausages, toast, coffee, tea and juice. There was also a bar which was open till 9pm, and you could buy drinks to take up to your room. And the staff were friendly. The room came with your standard kettle, tea and coffee, and even some hot chocolate. The addition of little biscuits and a small bowl of sweets was nice. There was no evening meal available at the restaurant, so we ordered a take away which was fine!

Good location and not far from train station. Close to town center and local supermarket for any needs. Room very spacious and clean & tidy. Breakfast fantastic, buffet style breakfast which meant you could have as much as you could eat. Convenient bar for afternoon / evening if you fancy a drink. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Very nice staff, Katerina (?) who checked me in was very nice. Also the young woman at breakfast who I have been served at the bar by on previous occasions when I just called in for a drink. My mother lives just a few doors away from the hotel so I had popped in before when visiting. This time limited space at my mother's meant I needed a room and so the hotel was the logical choice. The location is excellent, less than 10 minutes walk from the rail station and so close to town. Breakfast looked and smelt amazing though I had no time to stay on this occasion. Overall a good value hotel, nothing fancy but for the price it offers great value. Clean, friendly, central, free WiFi, ensuite and a generous hot breakfast. For £66 you can't go wrong.

Lovely traditional building. Bedrooms spacious, clean with a small but very powerful shower. Bed really comfortable, breakfast- buffet style- awesome. Staff really helpful and friendly. We only stayed one night travelling home from Stornoway- the ferry back was delayed due to a storm and James at the hotel very accommodating in moving our booking twice. Much appreciated. If we revisit the area would stay here again, definitely.

Lovely old building. Very quiet at night. Room was fairly spacious on second floor (no lift. Anyone with mobility issues would struggle) with black out blind. Dinner excellent. Great, helpful, approachable staff. No fridge or safe in rooms which we found unusual in a 4 star. Room was stifling, even with heating off, duvet far too heavy. Didn't sleep well whole time we were there. Indifferent breakfast with few choices. Buffet was very lacking in choice. Stayed in Dumfries to visit family nearby. It would be lovely in nice weather.

Replenished daily and I got extra tea and milk no problem. Beautiful views. Lovely surroundings and a nice play area for children. Nice for walks. Good parking available and it is for electric vehicles too. Food was lovely and great choices for hot and cold continental breakfast. Evening meals are also good and caters for all budgets and a great choice. Our only issue was with rowdy adults who let their children run riot to the early hours of the morning. They were part of a wedding party that were staying and having their function and catering there. I did notify the receptionist on our check out. There had been a few complaints. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Fabulous room. Lovely hotel inside (could use a bit of TLC on outside, but I'm sure the group will sort this). We didn't have lunch/dinner, but enjoyed a lovely meal at a private function and very much enjoyed our breakfasts over two days. The staff were very helpful whenever we asked for anything. My wife remarked on how clean the place was (dust free was the term she used). Lovely grounds and far enough away from busy road to be quiet. All in all, very enjoyable stay and would stay there again when I'm in the area.

Was given family room. Even though expected 3 single bedded room. Separate double bedroom and sitting room. Had patio doors leading to car park so didn't have to go through main building. Large jacuzzi bath. And recliner sofas fridge was added bonus. Buffet full english breakfast. . Great value for money. Would definitely come again.

Great surprise! The room turned out to be rooms. My daughter and I stayed here for one night. Two single beds in one room, double bed in the other, jacuzzi bath and a lounge with sofas tv, fridge (check the settings though cause it froze our milk, which we found very funny), plenty of choice for drinks, biscuits and bottled water. Buffet style breakfast was served at the Caledonian next door. They were kind enough to microwave our dinner for us too. I've read some of the negative reviews and the only negative thing I can comment on is that there is some wear and tear but that in no way detracted from our stay. I would definitely stay again.

The hotel was clean and quiet. We had a double room with ample storage, tea, coffee, water and biscuits. Parking is available and the breakfast was excellent. Full Scottish breakfast, cereal, fruit and toast. The hotel is a short walk from the town centre. Plenty of bars and restaurants. Mount Brae is a must for Peter Pan fans. A walk along the River Nith and a visit to the free museums was great. We took a drive to Southerness Beach which was a 30 minute drove on a beautiful coastal road. Ticked all our boxes for a relaxing weekend away.

Beautiful accommodation in quiet, picturesque grounds, a fabulous place to stay. The staff are wonderful, so friendly, attentive and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. My bedroom (15) was excellent, a very large room, good shower and a super comfortable bed. Special mention to the restaurant, the food was superb. I had breakfast every morning and dinner on the last night, every meal there was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. The truffle oil and parmesan fries might just be the best fries I've ever had! I will certainly be returning to the Mabie, thank you for making a week working away from home such a relaxed, comfortable, friendly experience.

A beautiful traditional mansion with wood panelling and gorgeous heavy curtains, huge vases of fresh flowers and lovingly furnished in keeping. When we pulled up to the house it certainly cuts an amazing picture with a manicured lawn to the front and when being showed to our room a lovely huge oak staircase passing Basil, the very friendly in house parrot! We were given the Honeymoon Suite! Couldn’t believe it for the price we paid. Huge bedroom and the bed was so comfy; bath with shower over was hot with good pressure and fluffy towels. We also had our own living room with TV, so three rooms in one, bedroom, bathroom and living room. Still smiling about it now! We thought the drinks and dinner would be expensive due to all this lavishness but again we were pleasantly surprised with it being very reasonable and delicious. Breakfast was included in the price and equally delicious. The staff were all so friendly and happy with nothing being too much trouble. We were only there for one night as a stop over on our journey home from Loch Fyne to Somerset, but wish we could have stayed longer.

Beautiful setting, with lots of places to sit and relax outside with a drink in the beautiful garden - amazing views. A very comfortable guest lounge. A nice bar, also teas and coffees. The food was exceptional, with generous portions. The bed was very comfortable, the room and bathroom were very clean. The staff were warm, friendly and efficient. I’m definitely going to be staying there again. I was slightly concerned about it being described as a wedding venue, but it was more than that (I’m sure it’s lovely for that purpose) It was a comfortable, relaxing treat for me travelling between work commitments.

The staff were very friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. Hazel gave me directions to a lovely quiet hike through the woods at the back of the hotel which was just beautiful. Thank you so much Hazel! It was exactly what I wanted and I managed to not get lost!! The location was absolutely perfect and exactly what we wanted. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and with a fabulous view of the surrounding countryside. Food was just fabulous!!!

We had a fantastic stay! Staff went out of their way to keep us comfortable with our pup serving us dinner and breakfast in front of the cosy fireplace so she could join us! The food was absolutely delicious! Friendly staff and lots of doggie cuddles, great food and a quiet comfortable nights rest in a beautiful setting! Just perfect! Thank you very much.

Attentive, efficient, pleasant, smart, tidy and very pleasant to chat with. an amazing asset to the hotel.

Large historic building, very impressive features, but decorated in a modern way. Although it wasn’t a cold November, a wood burning stove was lit in the dining room, giving the room a warm and cosy atmosphere. We had a delicious meal, perfectly cooked. The owner was very friendly and helpful, as soon as we had checked in, he took our luggage to our room without being asked. My husband is disabled but likes to do things himself even if he struggles so this was a huge help. All in all, a lovely overnight stay, I would recommend highly.

I was given a free upgrade to the 4 star sister hotel. Reception was very friendly even with a late check in due to issues on the M6. Hôtel very close to exit with M74 motorway. Room spacious clean & comfortable with a powerful shower

The hostess was wonderful when I took refuge at Craigadam after problems with two B&Bs in Dumfries. My room had a comfortable four poster bed, and a lounge area with a sofa - all very spacious. Breakfast was beautiful with lots of choice. The smoked salmon prepared at Craigadam was amazing. You can order dinner in advance. Three courses and the food was stunning. Fresh ingredients and a menu that changes daily. A beautiful garden around my idea of a country house, complete with billiard room. It's set on a farm in beautiful rolling countryside. From a New Zealand perspective, this was phenomenal value for money.

The themed rooms and the garden were amazing. Celia, the host, is lovely. She waited on our arrival for a late check in at 11 p.m. and gave us tips for our trip further north. The homecooked breakfast was delicious. All in all the stay at Craigadam was the perfect start to our vacation in Scotland.

This property was on a beautiful farm and in a majestic house. The room was spacious and very well appointed and had lovely courtyard views. The owner was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a few games of snooker on their full sized table.

Hotel is spotless clean. Our room was number 16 and our morning view was awesome. Sheep and rabbits amused us. Bed is so comfy and enormous. And food is absolutely gorgeous, special compliments to the chef.

The owner upgraded us to the bridal suite free of charge, due to their sister hotel not being available for dinner, which worked perfectly for us. Hotel was cosy and dinner was lovely.

Last minute booking for business - single room Reception: checked in efficiently by very friendly receptionist. Room 40: slightly dated, but I bet it’s a listed building. Extremely clean. Fan, iron, tea, coffee & a shortbread biscuit. Bathroom: overall a reasonable size, very clean, but Shower tiny ! No bath. Dinner : n/a no chef, so restaurant closed, but it’s a short stroll into the centre & lots of recommendations by the receptionist. Bar: sat outside in the garden area. Very nice. Breakfast: efficiently run by a friendly waitress. pre booked food at check in COVID restrictions apply, so no buffet, I had continental choices, coffee and a sausage sandwich. Would stay again : COVID restrictions, but very well looked after by the staff on duty.

Maintains best western standard Nice quiet location, even though it's in centre. Hotel is an impressive building inside and out. The roons were huge, clean and secure. Bathrooms seem to be different sizes, shower only or shower over bath, regardless they were spotless. All staff were professional but had a sense of humour, pleasant and efficient. Breakfast was fresh and delivered to table hot, extra tea and toast? not a problem sorted. recommended hotel and we will be returning

I only stayed one night and the hotel was ok. The hotel is right next to the station (obviously) and a 20 minute or so walk into town. The room was a bit tired but clean, comfortable and I felt safe. The bathroom was clean and the shower powerful. On the top floor of an old building I was expecting less, so pleasantly surprised. There was a shelf in the shower and above the sink which I like and a full length mirror in the room too. There was an additional heater and a fan too to cover all eventualities. I had wifi but couldn't get internet. No idea why. My only issue was the hairdryer had a shortish cable and with the socket on the floor it wouldn't reach as far as I'd like. Breakfast was in the basement and was fine but I must mention that the scrambled eggs were really nice, light and not greasy which I often find. Overall, a reasonable 3 star for a reasonable price, ideal for an overnight in Dumfries.

I do inspect cleanliness in bathrooms beyond the norm. Here, as is usually the case, the nooks and crannies could have been cleaner but not without adequate equipment - a cheap toothbrush does the job well but a cloth or sponge won't cut it. The room itself was absolutely fine in all respects. Friendly efficient staff. Considerate management - if you want more milk on the hospitality tray than the 6 little tubs provided for a single guest then they'll provide you with a jug of fresh milk. So that is really helpful. There's plenty of coffee and tea, including decaff in both. Hairdryer included and - brilliant - you can effectively controll the temperature in the room to suit yourself. Clean, comfortable bed with fresh, good quality bedding and extra available if you want. Generally, lacks for nothing. Very good value for money. Would be very happy to stay here again.

This is a historic building that has been maintained and is clean and bright. Room was well appointed, and there is food on site - I ate a very good dinner and breakfast. The staff at the front desk is attentive and helpful. I would stay again!

Absolutely over the moon with our stay at kirkwirral guest house! Evoyne and Jim were exceptionally welcoming and so friendly! The house was very upto date and immaculate! This place was absolutely stunning. The hostess was there to greet us on arrival and show us around. The room was really nice. Comfy bed. Smart TV. Good internet. Very nice shower. Lovely toiletries provided as well. We could open our back bedroom door in to a beautiful stunning garden area with jacuzzi, sauna, loads outdoor seating areas, nice out house with fridge and chairs too. Stunning few of river at the back. Loved the hot tub. Nice hot temperature which l love. The couple who own the place were really helpful but at the same time not in our faces. Very safe secure place. Easy to park and not far from the town centre to drive to. Had breakfast upon leaving and oh wow was amazing. Can’t wait to return and take my mum.

The breakfast was very good with lots of choice including fresh fruit, always a treat. Good position not far from the motorway.

The host couldn’t have been more accommodating with a fantastically cooked breakfast with local produce. Can’t recommend enough for any duration of stay.

Location absolutely ideal - smack bang in the middle of town, but somehow no sound from the railway or road reached the room, amazing. Room was extremely spacious, lots of storage areas and comfortable bed. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, I felt like I waddled out afterwards! Jo is a very gracious and friendly host, she was easily approachable and extremely keen to be on hand for any queries/issues.

It was clean, comfortable, spacious, the breakfast was delicious, the host Jo was so friendly and accommodating even when we had to put back our arrival time till 10pm. She responded to our messages and calls immediately and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. We didn’t want to leave.

Absolutely gorgeous house - comfortable beds, massive bathroom with a lovely strong shower and huge bath. Breakfast was cooked to order and really good quality, tasty ingredients. Jo is so friendly and welcoming, we felt instantly right at home. The added advantage to our teenage son was having a room to himself!

We loved our overnight stay - the room(s) were very spacious and sympathetically decorated, the beds comfortable. Jo was an exceptional host, friendly, accommodating and she provided a delicious breakfast with plenty of choice. We loved the thoughtful details and would definitely recommend a stay! Thank you Jo!

The staff are so friendly and helpful. We booked the early spa 8 til 10am which was amazing, so new and luxurious. Breakfast is served until 11 am, so we didn't miss it. My two adult daughters and I will definitely go back. Their suite had a TV above the jacuzzi bath and a radii in the mirror which they loved.

My husband & I spent Christmas here (2022) ...what can I say ~ why this hotel is not 4 stars is bewildering. From stepping into the reception it is immaculately clean EVERYWHERE. Every single staff member is exceptionally friendly, polite, courteous, always smiling and whatever they are asked, nothing is too much trouble for them. They are a credit to themselves and to the owners of the hotel. The food is of exceptional quality, beautifully presented, the plates that should be hot were, marvellous variety and every taste catered for. Our room was superb, the only minor was that the heating could not be turned down as the radiator was behind a fixed unit and we were a little too hot ~ personal preference, NOT a complaint, so we dealt with it as guests should! (we opened the windows!) The complimentary tray was highly maintained and we did not have to ask for more milk as so often happens in other hotels, usually only 2 pots of milk! Beautiful bathroom, spotlessly clean. The room was spacious and very comfortable, again spotlessly clean.

Well located for a walk into town and riverside walks. Aldi just across the road was useful. Room was very clean and shower was good. Safe place to park my motorcycle was appreciated. Peter the host, was very friendly on checkin. He clearly has great plans in further developing this guesthouse.

All cleaning supplies and hoover to keep the place clean after children had eaten was wonderful. Close to everything supermarkets aldi morrisons lidl, food takeaways if feeling like not cooking, town centre and all other things to do (search things to do before you arrive if not host has loads of ideas in the flat) Was easy to find and park outside again not in anyones way bright lighting at night outside the flat which is great. This was in the middle of all my family so perfect, lovely host as well. I cant wait to come back up again. 2 nights was not long enough.

Lovely flat very comfortable and cosy. Heating was on when we went in which was very welcoming on a cold day 😊 every thing you need including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and sugar. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again when we are visiting dumfries 😊

The breakfast was exceptional. Robertson is a world class chef. We had the best breakfast of our entire journey at Fernitosh. The room was comfortable, clean, and quiet. Robertson and his wife are wonderful host and made us feel like family. Both are well informed about the Dumfries Area .We will definitely highly recommend Fernitosh to our friends and family. Added plus is that is just a block from train station.

Breakfast was amazing, hot fresh and beautifully presented. Room was gorgeous, bed lovely and comfortable, bathroom lovely with a fab shower, the whole house was warm and welcoming (doggie cuddles were a bonus). We were really made to feel at home. Location is great with the town within easy walking distance and parking virtually on the doorstep. This is by far the best place to stay in Dumfries.

We had a good breakfast with vegetarian and vegan options. The room was comfortable and bigger than we expected. We both slept well in the comfy beds. The shower was easy to operate and everything was clean. Location was excellent for the activities we had planned and just opposite the station. Our host, Robertson, was very welcoming.

Stewart Hall is in walking distance for shopping and eateries. We found it really peaceful and comfortable. Although there is no onsite staff, the gentleman I spoke to on arrival from the sister hotel The Caledonian was polite and informed us we could go to this hotel for breakfast which is a couple of minutes drive. Stewart Hall is clean and comfortable with housekeeping available each day.

The booking was for my 70 year old dad to visit me for a few days. He was very happy with the location as he's not very active but could still go for a stroll at the park and get coffee and food at the small café if he wanted to. He was very impressed with the property and the facilities. He said the photos don't so it justice, he was especially happy to have a jacuzzi bath 😊

Terrific value for money. Full studio apartment (living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom with TV and central heating. Tea, coffee, milk, butter, bread and eggs provided for breakfast. Clean and well presented. Nice location near town centre and river. Would definitely return if visiting Dumfries again.

This cottage is amazing and the host equally so! Great location and self contained with everything that you need - breakfast supplies were greatly appreciated. The host made up the sofa bed prior to our arrival and check in was so quick amd easy. We parked right at the front door and walked a very short distance into the centre of town for dinner. Very warm and cosy.

The flat has everything required for a comfortable stay, it's cozy and warm, with outdoor seating area, the location is amazing, situated on the river Nith, walking distance from town centre

Lovely clean, comfortable accommodation in a peaceful setting with great views of open countryside. Eleanor was quick to respond to messages so we were clear of the details that we needed for our stay. The cooked breakfast was tasty plentiful and good value - we couldn't finish it! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to get away for some peace and quiet.

The cottage, part of a working farm, is set in a stunning slice of countryside not too far from civilisation, but remote enough that it feels as though you're living on the frontiers of a different century. The cottage itself is modern and spacious, containing everything you'll need to cook meals and stay snug, warm and cosy in a little home from home. Shower is good, you can access your streaming services through the TV, and the beds are very comfortable. The hosts were on-hand and helpful, and the next morning they were kind enough to let my young sons help collect eggs from the hens and feed the sheep. I would definitely recommend to other travellers, including those with young families, and we would definitely stay there again.

The cottage was cosy, comfortable, clean, warm and simply laid out and decorated. The facilities were more than adequate and easy to use. It had quite a 'homely' feeling to it. Located on a working farm in beautiful countryside with amazing views and very friendly and hospitable owners. We would be more than happy to go back again.

It was very clean and tidy. We loved that it was quiet and in the county. The breakfast was all from the farm and very nice. The hosts were friendly and very helpful.

Everything from the friendly welcome to friendly staff, clean rooms and very comfortable in a central location.

Staff member greeted us upon arrival and provided us with extra coffee and milk and some bedding for the dog. Bed was really comfy and the bar downstairs was friendly and good for dogs.

Daniel the owner was very helpful Bed very comfortable Tea and coffee proved .. Handy for train station and bus route ..

We had a very enjoyable stay and received a great welcome from the hotelier, who made sure we had everything we needed. The double room with ensuite bathroom had marvellous views, lots of space and efficient heating, when required.

The staff member who I dealt with went above and beyond what was expected and so helpful and friendly.
