Excellent food and wine. Very modern hotel with entertainment each evening. Breakfasts were also excellent. Two minor negetives1/ The main outdoor pools were very cold and as such virtually nobody used them. The outdoor jacuzzi was also very tepid which also meant nobody used it. The indoor pool however was superb and saved the day.

The Royal Savoy has the feel and ambience of a long-established quality hotel even though it is a relatively modern building. It is set on a cliff by the sea, with the entrance on the 8th floor and rooms down to the ground at sea level. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient without being patronising. All speak good English. Food is top quality, with a variety of restaurants inside and out serving everything from snacks to a full meal. The included breakfast was as good as, and generally better than, any we have experienced in any of the hotels we have stayed in at home or abroad. We had a room service dinner on our first night (been up since 4am to catch the flight) and it was like a full silver service. There are several good local restaurants (the best is X-Tonel) but sadly some have closed due to the covid problems. The grounds and outdoor pools are well maintained and clean with helpful staff always ready to set up the parasols and help you settle down for a relaxing time. There is a good indoor pool and a decent gym with various machines. Spa treatments are also available. In summary a top quality hotel whose staff care about their guests. We have stayed there several times and will go again. We even prefer it to Reids!

We loved every moment of our stay at The Royal Savoy. The staff were very efficient, friendly, helpful and attentive. The room was very comfortable and a delight with spectacular views. Room amenities, and bathroom were excellent - always brilliantly cleaned and refreshed by the excellent team. Breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of foods on offer to satisfy any requirement. Special mention to the lady who cooks fresh eggs on demand, in whatever style required. Dining in the evening was excellent. Location is excellent - Funchal old town was only a short beautiful walk away. Many many restaurants available within walking distance - in our experience, it would be difficult to get a bad meal anywhere. The Spa as excellent, a facial treatment there was superb - great attention, good quality products, un-rushed and very relaxing. Leisure facilities were excellent with outdoor and indoor pools, gym and the sea. Everything at this hotel is kept to a very high standard. One the best stays that we have ever had - very highly recommended.

Better than expected (and expectations were high). The hotel staff was extremely helpful, friendly, professional and wonderfully polite. The hotel itself felt modern and was immaculate in its upkeep. The standard double room with ocean view was absolutely amazing for the cost; rooms were spacious, luxurious in decoration, had cavernous and we’ll appointed bathrooms (both a torrential shower and soaking tub), and the private deck (big enough for a lounge chair and table with chairs) with an unobstructed panorama of the bay brought paradise to life. A part of me wants to rate the hotel a 0/5 so that prices may continue to be as unrealistically low as they are today, but the staff deserve to be recognized for their superlative performance. My only hope is that, in the next few years when we revisit Funchal, we can afford this hotel again.

Staff always friendly and helpful. Double room with sea view balcony was fine, huge bed! Breakfast buffet could hardly be better whether you want a light continental or full English. Well situated with a good selection of restaurants nearby and easy walk to Funchal town. Lunch snacks also good quality and wide choice. A well equipped gym and good indoor pool for anyone wanting some exercise, more relaxing options also available. Hotel grounds have plenty of sunloungers which are not laid out in rank and file but distributed around the intriguingly laid out grounds. We prefer Royal Savoy to Reid's.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at this stylish hotel set amongst lush green gardens. Service was excellent throughout and breakfasts were superb with a fabulous variety of hot and cold options including a great bread and pastries selection. Our premium garden room was spacious, comfortable and offered a great small terrace with daybed where we could sit and relax at the end of each day. We used the spa daily (steam room, sauna and jacuzzi) which was clean and well equipped. Overall this was a relaxing oasis of calm within the busy streets of Funchal.

We loved our stay at this hotel. We spruced for a deluxe suite which had a massive room and even larger separate lounge area with sofa and dining table. The marble bathroom had a separate shower and bathtub (with jacuzzi feature) and his/hers sinks which is always handy when trying to get ready simultaneously - our one gripe was that the bathroom door kept seining open on its own (mgmt provided us with a door stop to keep this from happening) and the area outside the shower cubicle would get flooded due to poor design of the shower door (however this was usually cleaned up swiftly thanks to both the daytime housekeeping and turndown service). The gardens are the highlight of especially the quality of the gardens which you can wander around for hours taking note of the different flora and fauna (with each one being labelled for nerds like me)

We stayed in the main building having a room under reception and opening out onto the gardens. The setting is lovely and peaceful. The room was spacious and room service provided everything we asked for. Walking down the garden for breakfast every morning was a joy and it was very pleasant to have a freshly cooked meal. We ate in the dinner restaurant once and had a very enjoyable meal. We enjoyed a few happy hour drinks in the deck bar before walking the local area in the evening and the view from there is delightful. It is hard to fault this hotel - they even laid on a welcome drinks party. The pool area is attractive and quiet, a great place to relax and the heated pool luxurious. Walking into town takes 30 minutes and on the way back the last part is uphill. It can pay to use the odd taxi. Funchal is interesting, the coastal walk is nice and a drive round the island offers one some great views and pretty villages, but the roads are a little demanding. If you like dolphins then excellent trips are readily available. Finally, play the two golf courses, the views are spectacular, but only walk them if you are fit.

We had a fabulous relaxing time in this amazing hotel set among beautiful gardens in a peaceful oasis just outside the centre of Funchal but still within 20 min walking distance or a short taxi ride into the centre. Lovely restaurants and bars close by if you don't want the walk into town. All the staff in the hotel were so friendly, helpful and efficient especially the welcoming breakfast staff. Breakfast was a lovely experience sitting outside in the garden with the sun shining. Premier room was first class, spacious with a nice balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. Look no further book this hotel and you will love the calm and tranquility.

A hotel which is presented immaculately in all respects. High attention to detail and excellent customer awareness and service. We chose a superior double room which had a balcony and was larger than the doubles (a special rate for our chosen week), but all the rooms are lovely and all look out on to the gardens with their own outside loungers and sitting areas. Bathrooms are spacious and toiletries are topped up every day. Beds are very comfortable. Breakfast has plenty of choice: eggs (any way you like!) plus other hot choices that differ each day (sausages, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and beans), then fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, nuts, croissants, rolls, cheeses, cold meats, cakes and a range of fruit juices. All presented on a long buffet table. Tea and coffee served at the table as requested. VERY relaxing atmosphere across the whole hotel.

The location was perfect, right in the centre of everything, a stone’s throw from the beach, yet very peaceful at night. It was also very clean and the two bedrooms and two showers + toilets were handy. Our apartment was on the top floor which made it very quiet as well. We also noticed that they arrange transportation to levadas which is handy (we only noticed this on our last night so did not get a chance to try it out)

that’s an amazing place to stay, really good location for tourists, many good restaurants around, close to the beach, super clean, also very cozy and silent.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, and everything can easily be accessed by foot. There are plenty of shops and restaurants around. The place is quiet and comfortable.

Excellent location. In the centre of town. There is a taxi rank just down the street. The apartment is very nice with two bedrooms and two toilets, one with shower and one with a bath The beds and pillows were a bit firm for me, but I find that everywhere I go anyway. It's great to come back after a long day and open the apartment window and look at the square outside, and if you look to your left you get an amazing view up the hills of the island when all the lights are on. I only met one member of staff but she was very friendly and offered to take us to the airport after checkout, which was great. When you arrive call the number on the glass door to inform them that you are outside, and somebody will come and let you in.

Excellent location. It is the heart of the old city. I attach a picture from my window. The room is comfortable, equipped with everything you need. The air conditioning was especially helpful in hot weather. Very clean apartment. Excellent attitude of the manager. Andre was very responsive to all my requests, for which I am especially grateful. A convenient transfer from the airport was organized for me as well. I recommend it to everyone!

The garden, swimming pool/jacuzzi and view are amazing! We arrived late with our children and the owner brought us food, which was very kind!!!

My stay at the Relax View property was nothing short of spectacular. The panoramic city view from the property are simply breathtaking, with each glance out the window or step onto the balcony invoking a sense of awe and wonder. Whether it's the sunset painting the sky with vibrant hues, every moment spent taking in the scenery was a feast for the senses. Moreover, the staff at Relax View were welcoming, ensuring that every aspect of my stay was nothing short of perfection. Their dedication to hospitality truly enhanced the overall experience.

The view was amazing. The house have everything you need either you wanna cook or eat out. We felt like we were at home. Great communication with the owner too. Very good WiFi. We spent an amazing time there.

First of all really good view from balcony. clean apartments, easy to access. Private parking if you have a car, local bar nearby, can walk to city centre in 1 hour.

We stayed at this lovely apartment in Funchal for 7 nights over the New Year celebrations, and it was a fantastic experience! The apartment is located in a quiet residential area, offering beautiful views of the sea and cruise ships from the balcony. It’s about a 15-minute walk downhill to the harbour and 10-minute to the shopping area. The return stroll uphill takes around 30 minutes, but we often used Bolt, which was both inexpensive and very reliable. Our host, Jorge, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, ensuring we felt right at home. We also enjoyed visiting the local bar just around the corner – a great atmosphere with friendly locals – and the nearby shop was equally welcoming. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this apartment for anyone looking for a peaceful base with easy access to all that Funchal has to offer.

The apartment was 15m walk from city center and good walking distance to local coffee shops, restaurant, bars and mini market. The apartment itself was spacious and well furnitured, with a private garage. I loved the room in the antic, where I could fully open the windows and look at the stars 🌟

Its a very comfortable & spacious apartment with a nice little terrace. It was great to have 2 bathrooms. Underground parking was a big plus too.

Good accommodation with nice interior. Clean, good size and great view. Good size bathroom. About a 20-30min walk to areas of Funchal town. Coffee machine and laundry available for use. Staff were very nice and responsive. Free underground parking available.

Flat was on 2 floors. Lower floor had living room, kitchen with dishwasher, 2 rooms each with 2 single beds, bathroom. To the top floor you walk on twisty little stairs and it opens to spacious bedroom with double bad and another bathroom. There is also private parking in garage and also enough space for parking outside. City centre is in walking distance, most of restaurants, cable car to botanic gardens and big bus station in 15-25 minutes but walk is starting in steep hill - but that's the way Funchal is - built in mountain :) Host was very helpfull last day helping us with language. Pleasant stay.

Everything was absolutely amazing! The photos truly don´t do this place any justice - it´s like living your most amazing dreams! Clean, spacious, well layed out apartment ( we were 5 people and everyone had private space) with the most breathtaking views!! Supermarcets, cafes, a pharmacy, bank and many more just a step away. The hosts were so lovely: they gave us tips for food places and - oh my god- were they good! The terrace has the best view over Funchal yet the center of the city is 5 mins of drive away. No words can describe how happy we are with this place!

We a family of four adults were at Vila Regia for 3 nights. For all of us it felt like a home away from home. Everything what we needed was in place. Spacious and well kept rooms and ameneties. The views are INSANE. Every bedroom has a balcony, big living room with dining area, fully equipped kitchen, private underground parking. Rodrigo is an amazing host who met me and explained everything. Good placement - in a calm area, a bit further from the center, with an amazing bakery nearby.

Great location, nice, large apartment with everything that you need. Rodrigo was very helpful and responsive. He's a great host and you can count on him. And wow this view from the balcony :)
