The location was fantastic, right in the heart of the Sassi area. Restaurants and bars were very close by. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful, the taxi arrangement with the local parking worked seamlessly, the room was out of this world - we stayed in room 8, a very spacious cave room with a bath in its own little separate cave. The view from our room and from the terrace is amazing and breakfast was very enjoyable too. Everything was spotlessly clean and all amenities were could have needed were provided. Very highly recommended!

I honestly cannot recommend this place enough!!! The service was the best we had experienced in our 3 months in Italy. The staff were friendly, professional and quick to respond. I explained that we were there for my husband’s birthday and they went above and beyond to make our stay special. They helped with suggestions and reservations for dinner as well as tours. They were happy to help with any questions we had and you get a free map with suggested routes to see all the sights. You get much-needed cold water upon arrival. I requested a bottle of Prosecco in our room for my husband’s birthday and they happily obliged and provided a fanatic local bottle of Prosecco. We stayed in a private suit and the room was fantastic! It was spacious, with a huge bath and shower and seperate toilet. It had a TV, coffee station and air conditioning (which we didn’t need to use despite the extreme heat in Matera as the room is nice and cool as it is in a cave setting). The breakfast was fantastic and the view from the terrace is incredible! I also love that they have eco-friendly processed in place to minimise their footprint. We will definitely be back when in Matera!

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! We were able to easily communicate with the staff through Booking.com, and they were very attentive and accommodating. We had requested a cave room, and they kindly facilitated it, the view from our room was breathtaking, overlooking the stunning cave houses of the 'Sassi'. The room itself was comfortable and cozy, and the staff went above and beyond by helping us find the best authentic local cuisine to try. They also arranged taxi services to and from the main city center, which was incredibly convenient and helpful, especially given our tight schedule. The breakfast was amazing, featuring a variety of authentic savory and sweet options, we absolutely loved it! On our last day, we had a very early check-out, and the staff even arranged breakfast for us much earlier than their usual serving time, which we truly appreciated. The hotel’s location is perfect, with easy access to all the Caveoso and Barisano attractions. Overall, it was a flawless stay, we would highly recommend it!

The rooms were amazing! Spacious and very comfortable bed. The view from the room was breathtaking: a great view of the city, especially at night. Just the best hotel room ever! The jacuzzi in the room made all the difference.

This was a "blow the budget" trip for me and I was not disappointed. The hotel is built into caves and has fantastic views of the city and over the ford (you can walk over). My room (a cave in itself) was huge, a large jacuzzi in the centre (would likely accommodate 4 people) and a modern wet room at rear, decor and lighting was perfect. The restaurant was also built into cave, was beautiful. Staff eager to assist and pleasant to chat to. Overall, fantastic - 1 minor criticism, the water in jacuzzi was not warm, no doubt refreshing in the sweltering summer but uninviting in a cooler October! Did mention to staff and it was being inspected when I left. Formidable place, thank you.

Where to start, our stay at Palazzo Del Duca was amazing. Firstly, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and made our stay enjoyable. The location of the hotel couldn't be better with amazing views of Matera on your doorstep. We were lucky to get upgraded to the room with the pool, which was a fantastic treat. We had both breakfast and dinner in the hotel, and both were delicious. For those with a car, they work with a local carpark who will take your car, keep it safe, and drop you off at the hotel. It was such a smooth process. We really loved our stay.

Wow! We booked a suite with terrace and the view from our private terrace was unbelievable with views over the Sassi and the caves. The room was very spacious, gorgeous decor with a roll top bath in the room and a separate bathroom with walk in shower. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English. We used their partner company to park and taxi to the edge of the Sassi where we were greeted by a porter to take our bags and guide us through a short walk in the winding old world to the hotel. They communicated in advance of our arrival to arrange everything! This stay really made our trip and was my favourite part of our holiday. This beautiful city is right outside your door and you’re able to forget about the modern world the entire time. 10/10 thank you!

Amazing Hotel with amazing views. Tricky to get to but the hotel staff took care of our luggage do we didn’t have to carry anything. We probably had the most beautiful suite with a hugh terrace. Comfortable bed and pillows. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The staff were so friendly and kind. I can’t think of a better place to stay.

The room was fantastic. Cave !!! We loved the jacuzzi tub. Very comfortable and beautiful. The staff was delightful. Very helpful with carrying the luggage to the property. It was very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was nice. The location was good. Everything was walkable and close by.

This was my favourite hotel and hotel room ever! We had the room with the jacuzzi tub and it was awesome. Beautiful and unique, super clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated, amazing and friendly staff - Mario was especially charming and hospitable, and the location was unparalleled. It was an oasis and paradise - and we had just come from the Amalfi Coast so that's saying something! Highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back one day.

The room was spacious and comfortable. It was a real feast for the eyes. We have not stayed in a nicer hotel. Everything is thought out down to the last detail, authenticity intertwines with comfortable modernity. You can even see fossils in the ceiling and walls! Very comfortable bed, amazing shower and spa bath. The front desk is staffed by wonderful and helpful people. They can order you dinner at a selected restaurant, excursions, etc. We were particularly impressed by the breakfast buffet lady. Her warmth and smile made the all days special. Thank you very much! Shower facilities could be replenished more often (we stayed 4 nights). Could also be a couple of simple wine glasses (we only found two plastic ones, which were later thrown away by the maid). It doesn't matter if you choose the hotel for one or several nights, it will definitely not disappoint you. Both a great location and an exclusive interior and warm staff.

The most striking thing is that we got a (double) upgrade to a room with a beautifull terrace and jacuzzi overviewing the Sassi. The hotel is perfectly located in the centre and located in a old palace. It has a nice terrace for dinner and drinks with beautiful view. The staff is amazing. The only thing is that the hotel is located in the centre of the historical and car-free area. We arrived by car and we had to park the car in a sister hotel and were neatly transported with a van from and to the hotel. Unfortunatey the GPS of the car brought us into the car-free zone of Matera :(

This hotel far exceeded expectations. Our suite was 304; it was large, beautiful, with a balcony overlooking the caves/ravine and a huge soaking tub. The staff were so helpful and friendly, and the food at breakfast and dinner delicious. They gave us recommendations for other restaurants which were also great. It is in a wonderful location within the old town (no cars), but they have a parking area about 20min outside the city and send a van for pickup. We would highly recomment Matera - it is a very interesting, walkable (slippery cobbles in the rain), historic town and there is a nice hike down to the ravine and up to the caves. We had a guide for the town - arranged through the information center; she was very knowledgable, helpful and fluent. The town is much less touristy than other places in Puglia; I'm glad we spent three nights there.

When had 3 nights here and it was fantastic. The whole experience was first class. It was so clean and extremely well maintained. From the moment we walked in to the final farewell. Being greeted by Carmen at the front desk and a quick tour of the hotel with the history of the building. The staff are all amazing ( thank you ) Breakfast was 1st class and so was the service. Our waitress and waiter really looked after us. This hotel is extremely stunning. Our room was well equipped the bed huge and comfortable. A great bath and shower and the decor was lovely. It was super clean. The mini bar was an a feeder bonus. We loved being here

The Palazzo Gattini is very centrally located and close to the cathedral. The view from the roof terrace is stunning! Breakfast was very good indeed, particularly the fresh orange juice and eggs cooked to order. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although we didn't eat dinner in the hotel (preferring to experience what Matera had to offer), I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short luxury break.

Hotel is very well located within the historic district facing on the same plaza as the Duomo (get ready for many, many staircases throughout the area). Parking (which is free) is at a sister property outside the historic area, a good 10-15 minute ride via an on-demand shuttle van. Our room, a jr. suite, had an older vibe - stone walls, older furniture but was clean and had operable windows with a view. We dined one night in the upscale hotel restaurant - food was good if not memorable. The breakfast buffet was typical of hotels of similar quality. Staff was helpful in answering questions and helping us design a walking route. Outside bar was closed during our early November visit. A good choice for a Matera visit.

Amazing stay! The room exceeded our expectations. Check-in was fast and easy, and the instructions about parking, room amenities, and local recommendations were clear and extremely helpful. The bathtub was exceptional, and the bed was spacious and comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive, making our stay enjoyable. The location of the rooms is perfect – right between the new and old city, allowing you to easily explore both while also having the convenience of parking your car close by. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Luxury room with bathtub in the room. Perfect lighting in the room, bathtub and bathroom! It has a door/window even though the room is in a renovated old house. Very easy entering the room- both electronic and keys. Complementary coffee, tea, water and cleaning everyday. The reality is better than in the pictures

The staff could not have been more helpful and went above and beyond including helping with restaurant recommendations and taxi service. The location is perfect, it’s a very short walk to a wide variety of historical sites, restaurants, and shops. There is a parking garage about a two-minute walk away; Euvodia staff will make a reservation for you if you’re arriving by car and need parking. The room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed and large bathroom. There is a lovely courtyard area with seating. Staff responded to our questions very quickly and were very welcoming and helpful.

Everything perfect. Michela was super helpful all the time. The room was clean, spacious and with excellent furniture. I appreciate it having a desk with a chair. The bathroom had excellent supplies, breakfast was very good. I loved the fresh fruit, outstanding quality. Situation was also excellent, close to downtown and close to the bus stop from the airport.

It was amazing place with outstanding design and perfect location. We were met by a very nice woman that helped us with everything and super nice surprise was upgrade of the rooms we've had (we were travelling with another couple of friends). The rooms weere clean, well furnished and desidned with style. There is one more place close to the hotel we would advise to visit - Il Fiore del Latte with fresh buratta and other cheeses with amazing wine and very nice stuff.

Beautiful new boutique hotel in lovely location built into hillside with fantastic views. No restaurant but nice terrace for drinks and light meals and breakfast. Lovely staff. Big room with comfy round bed (one of the suites but without jacuzzi or plunge pool) Valet parking good - will come and carry bags the 100m or so up the hill. Only downside was our breakfast was delayed about an hour but seemed to be fine for others . Short walking distance down to great restaurants and bars in via Buozzi and uphill to Largo del Duomo.

The hotel is actually a palazzo and is absolutely gorgeous - the lower levels are dug into a cave and you can still see the underground cisterns used for storing water in the past. The room was super spacious but cozy, everything was pristine clean and you have all the facilities you might need for a perfect stay. The food was amazing - the breakfast options are plentiful and it all tastes heavenly. We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was perfect (highly recommend the beef steak). The location needs no comment - the hotel is in the heart of Matera, the view is breathtaking and you can easily explore the historical part on foot. Let’s not forget the staff - everyone was super friendly and helpful, they recommended places to go, provided us with a map with a route for our walk around the city, places for lunch, etc. All in all it was the perfect stay for our trip to Matera.

A wonderful place to stay with staff that was incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was quite big and had all the modern facilities we could want, such as TV, a big bathroom with a rain shower, shower necessities, towels for the swimming pool. We had a private terrace that looked out over the fields that surround the masseria. It is located a couple kilometers outside of Matera, making it perfect for visiting the city but also enjoying a peaceful vacation. The breakfast is extensive and they offer to the option to have dinner too, which I definitely recommend trying at least once.

Wow!! It is hard to expalin, you need to be there to understand. The facility is beautiful, very large, with fabulous gardens, in a rural landscape with an endless view to the valley. All of the stuff are very kind and friendly. The room is big, clean, comfortable, the decoration of the room and all of the facility are in the highest level. The pool area is magical. The breakfast is amazing, with a wide varity of homemade products and options. At the evening you can eat at the restaurant and get a cheffs meal, at the highest level of culinary, a very creative menu and tasty for a fair price. The location is also great, just 15 minutes from Matera. We will come back for sure and highly recommend it!

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Annalisa! She explained everything, answered all of my questions, and even walked around to check in with all the guests on several occasions. She was overall a very friendly hostess! The pool area is fantastic after a day of exploring or for a full day of rest on a longer trip. They offer drink service at the pool which is a real treat! My room also had a terrace where I could lounge and have my own drinks and snacks within walking distance to the pool. Wifi was strong throughout the property, which is not always standard in such a remote location, so bonus points for that! The maids were flexible and always confirmed when the best time would be to clean the room. Very friendly ladies always greeting the guests! If you are staying in the satellite building by the pool, you can park in the lot right next to the side entrance so you are not walking on pebbles with your luggage - a nice thoughtful, gesture. Lastly, it is very accessible to the city of Matera (only 10 minutes drive) or the beaches of Metaponto (1 hour with traffic, shorter if no traffic) It goes without saying you need your own car to stay here.

So calm in a beautiful rural setting. the staff was lovely. the restaurant is absolutely to try, our waiter was amazing and the food delicious. Room were spacious & clean. Matera is easily reachable by car. We felt on a retreat.

A beautiful property in the heart of Matera. We were delighted that we booked 2 nights. We upgraded to a Junior suite and had stunning balcony views. The room was big, bright, beautiful and very clean. We had a lovely breakfast each morning with plenty of choice.

Cave bedroom in the separate building down the steps was amazing. Very modern, yet archaic; stylish, yet comfortable. More luxurious than I'd expected. Bathroom was fantastic in particular - shiny modern facilities but with cave paintings on the walls!

The location was fantastic. Public paid parking nearby, sitting in the best location to be in for exploring the city, breakfast was fine, people were nice, room had amazing view and a bathtub (which I prefer to shower).

Short drive to the town but in an isolated location so you cannot wander beyond the hotel. Rooms very modern and they have tea/coffee making facilities. Also the TV has English TV which is nice when travelling alone. Bed was comfortable and linen clean but I did note that the room was not cleaned to a high standard. My room had a balcony which led directly onto the car park, so really just a place to smoke if you wanted. Some rooms had a balcony over the pool area and others had none. Large lovely pool area and gardens, there is a lovely bar and restaurant area. Food is of good quality and the drinks etc are not expensive. Staff friendly.

A bit of an enigma, this hotel is very attractive from the exterior, the extensive ground include a swimming pool, cultivated gardens and an enormous water feature with a man made river. The rooms were quite basic but spacious and clean and the shower was amazing just like having a mini rainforest. The food can only be described as amazing. I had braised beef for dinner and my piece must have been close to half a kilo of delicious succulence. Much of the hotel had been taken over by a Netflix film crew which was a little inconvenient.

On our tour with Riviera Travel, this was certainly the best of the 3 hotels we stayed in. We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is large, modern, stylish and the decor is very nice. Our room was small, but the beds were fairly comfortable. The shower was a high step up into the bath. Our meal in the restaurant at night was fairly good. Breakfast buffet was acceptable. Service in the bar area, especially during the day, was poor. I was ignored several times - maybe because I am female? maybe because I'm not Italian? Who knows. Overall, a beautiful looking hotel, but could do better with service.

Arrived at an impressive looking building. On checking in, the staff were really friendly and informative. The restaurant meal was very good, the pool was very welcoming after a days travelling and great on site secure parking. Only 10 mins to Matera.

Located right in the heart of Sassi di Matera, the location could not have been better. Nor could the staff have been any friendlier or more helpful - they went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, and had everything we needed to know for our stay, including loads of info on places to eat, drink and visit. Andrea was always on hand on WhatsApp if we needed information. All four staff we met were warm, kind and friendly. We absolutely loved the hotel room. It felt very special to be staying in one of the iconic caves, but it has been modernised so beautifully. The room was huge, bright and airy, with all mod cons. We loved the huge walk-in shower behind the bed - a cool use of the space, and the fact that they had used the natural curves of the original cave walls to such great effect. The minibar was really reasonable, only charging €1 for water. The breakfast deserves a special shout-out. Served on the terrace at the front of reception, with a fabulous view of the Sassi, each day we were brought a tiered cake stand filled with fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries and cakes, and either little sandwiches, or cheese, meats and bruschetta. Absolutely delicious and very generous - we never managed to eat it all. We also like having a little table and chairs out the front to sit in the evening and enjoy the view.

We loved our modern suite room - the large comfortable bed takes centre stage with a luxury shower room behind. The views from our very own personal balcony set us straight into a James Bond movie! We loved it! The friendly staff were extremely helpful and welcoming - even providing us with a short list of the best restaurants and aperitivo bars ... invaluable as there are so many to pick from!

We loved everything about Matera and Endea Suite. The room was meticulously clean and comfortable and the location was perfect. We were lucky to have a balcony at the front. Perfect to sit and look out towards Matera. The breakfast was extensive and the communication easy. A private bar downstairs where I enjoyed the best Aperol Spritz. Close to restaurants and a big tick having stayed three nights in a cave. The highlight though was the staff who were friendly and helpful.

The location was very nice. Also the parking was great, we got a spot in the garage which was perfect since we were traveling by a motorbike. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very beautiful, we could enjoy the cool room in a very hot day plus the jacuzzi.

The location was perfect. The room was comfortable and the jacuzzi was the best feature, especially after a long drive and long walks. The staff especially Antonia was the best.

We stayed in one of the luxury rooms. We chose it not for the jacuzzi but for the view: the entrance of the room is in one of the village alley, but then you open the balcony door and you are at the edge of the world. Due to this position, I can imagine that this room is very quiet even in the main tourist season. We visited Matera in November, there where a few people but it was very enjoyable. Excellent breakfast and kind, welcoming staff. Recommended.

What a room, like what else do you need. Why? Well you are in Matera, you have one of the best views of the city. The jacuzzi was great, the bed was amazing and the service you provided us was sublime. Thank you so much and if we were not traveling from south to north, we would have wanted to stay longer.

What is there not to like? It was a dream place, in a dream town and everything was absolutely perfect. La Dimora delle 3 Zie is an exceptional hotel with exceptions service and facilities. We chose one of the cave rooms and spent 2 night in the city. The room was spotless, the bed super comfortable, it was quiet and yet in the center of the city. The breakfast in the morning had us giggle like kids (and we are in out 50s) as it was perfect and serve in the outdoor patio. We could not have wished for anything more or different and we did not want to leave. The owners are welcoming, lovely people and we would go back in a heartbeat. Don't miss the change to sleep in a 1000 year of cave. Where else can you do that?

Waking up surrounded by stone walls and natural light filtering in was like stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts you could hope for. We started our morning with a delicious breakfast featuring fresh, local ingredients — a lovely touch that made the stay even more special. If you're looking for a truly unique and heartwarming experience in Matera, this is the place. We can’t wait to return!

The owner and staff were very friendly and happy to organise our carpark transfer , our private day tour and restaurant recommendations. We upgraded to the 4 poster bedrooms, which had a balcony overlooking sassi and jacuzzi bath. All excellent.

Unique place to stay. The views from our suite were magical. Our room was absolutely huge! We had a jacuzzi in the bathroom. The entire suite was massive and the door from the bathroom led onto a balcony with stunning views.

the rooms were spacious, comfortable, quiet and very clean. Giuseppe and his mother were very welcoming and helpful. The location was really great, easy to walk to everything. We parked in the suggested parking facility and it was an easy 10 min walk to the property. Our room was the rooftop with an amazing view to boot!

We loved the warm welcome, view from the terrace (photos), spacious- and quiet room, building style, central location (easy to find below the central Duomo) and friendly helpfull staff. Matera really deserves a visit of a few days and staying in this hotel contributed a lot in our above expectation days in Matera. An extra special thanks to the sweet hotel owner that gave my gf a big fruitsalad (see photo) as a replacement for the croissants. Maybe more people would love this salad and have for example 1 or 2 croissants less. Pickup from airport and transfer to Locorotondo were also arranged perfectly, taxidriver also contacts you for final details.

The resort Thymus is exceptionally unique. Gorgeous rooms in the Matera sassi grotte. Perfectly restored with all amenities. A unique experience. Rooms are spacious, have jacuzzi in a private grotta, super clean, tastefully furnished in authentic style. The staff is beyond friendly and welcoming. An absolute treasure

The property is located unique. The reception and the breakfast room are inside an old cave church and our room was a completely independent "sasso", clean, full of comforts and amenities. The staff is amazing, super welcoming, kind and helpful. Our second day we asked for a breakfast to go since we were planning to leave earlier for a tour and they gave us a bag full of food and drinks, sweet and salty, enough for a group of people that we used also for lunch. Also the buffet breakfast was very rich and the food homemade. The location is just perfect close to everything. I can only recommend this bed&breakfast.

I had no idea that staying in a cave could be so luxurious. The cave has been converted into a suite with a beautiful, comfortable bed at one end, a small sitting area around the view of the old (dry) cistern below the cave, a very nice seating area around the wall mounted flat screen tv, and a warm, comfortable, clean bathroom. There is wine waiting in the room and other wine in the reception area if there is something else more to your liking. Breakfast was typical southern Italian cuisine with an extensive selection and areas to eat indoors or out. The staff were more than helpful; making dinner reservations, reservations for a walking tour, and even arranging to have some of our laundry done for us. Staying right in an area as unique and historical as the Sassi of Matera is an experience not to be missed. The history of the area may put a few travelers off, but the story and its effect on southern Italy should not be missed.

Absolutely amazing place to stay! The staff were so helpful from check in to making dinner reservations each night for us! The cave room was fantastic - an absolute highlight of our trip in Italy. Breakfast in the courtyard was fantastic and such a peaceful spot. The location for staying is very central and perfect for a couple of nights staying here. Parking in the garage off site for €25 per night was well worth it with a free private shuttle to transfer us to the accomodation and back. We loved this accomodation and city so much that we both think it’s the highlight of our trip (surpassing Positano and Sorrento, Naples and Rome). Absolutely recommend you stay here in a cave room for a truly memorable stay!

Beautiful room in a cave. Very spacious and with everything we needed. Nice location in the old town and the property has great atmosphere. Bed was comfortable and the jacuzzi was a great addition!

Exceptional restored original Matera cave with modern Italian interior design. All rooms r uniquely designed, some even with jacuzzi Family run property offers all imaginable services. We did a homemade pasta in-house course with kids - can only recommend.

Matera is a breathtaking place to experience. Le Dodici Lune was truly the icing on the cake! The cutest cave rooms, courtyard, and an incredible dining room/restaurant right in the heart of the Matera's old cave city (Sassi di Matera). Le Dodici Lune was convenient (super close to a primary parking lot & the park entrance for hiking), plus so many restaurants all in walking distance around the old city. Antonella was pleasant to message with, and Mariateresa was a savior! Breakfast buffet is a must, it's delicious, fresh, and convenient! As for visiting Matera, Even in the middle of summer during the height of tourism season, I found myself wandering stone streets with peaceful silence and nature sounds a good portion of my stay. There is so much magic in this place, I genuinely cannot wait to return!

Absolutely amazing stay here! Lovely experience staying in a cave room on the top level, which was very large and very clean. Perfect location, a bit of a walk from the centre, but you get an amazing view right at the doorstep. Good breakfast buffet, though it is a continental breakfast style without cooked options. Overall my experience was amazing and I would stay here again!

Marie-Therese and her mother were such gracious hosts, and the Residenza was very special and unique, with its own courtyard. They had restored everything from ruins starting around 2000, and it's done so tastefully, with a good balance of respect for the original structure of the site, with a sense of classic style and comfort. The room, part ancient cave, part tufa stone, was so quiet and elegant (no tv, such a relief!), the walls all made out of the local tufa stone that radiated history. We treated ourselves to dinner in the restaurant the last night, which was one of the best meals of our entire Italian trip. Breakfast every morning was perfect, not only classic caffe latte, and a range of croissants and pastries (plus cold cuts and cheeses), but also my favourite, a delicious potato focaccia made fresh every morning by our hosts. The modern sculpture museum, Musma, is almost next door. In a 17th century palazzo, built on top of over 7 cave networks that were formerly Benedictine and Dominican monasteries, it's one of the most beautiful and compelling art installations we've ever seen. The sassi neighbourhood village, Sassi Caveosa, nestled into the cliffs, and the whole town, is quite beguiling. Walking up and down stone pathways and stairs everywhere you go, complete with sassi cats that came out to play at night, was very special.
