Rating: 5/5 Title: Luxurious Retreat in the Golden Circle – A Memorable Stay I recently stayed at Hotel Grímsborgir by Keahotels in Selfoss, and it was truly one of the most memorable parts of my Iceland trip. The hotel is set in a beautifully quiet and remote area, which makes it a perfect base for exploring the Golden Circle without the crowds. The peaceful surroundings and wide-open skies give it a unique charm, especially at night. The room I stayed in was spacious, well-appointed, and incredibly comfortable. The private hot tub outside was the highlight — soaking in the warmth under the stars was an unforgettable experience, especially when the Northern Lights made an appearance. The design of the rooms combines modern comfort with Icelandic charm, and everything was spotless and well-maintained. Breakfast was exceptional — a generous spread of fresh pastries, local cheeses, fruits, and hot items that changed daily. The on-site restaurant also served one of the best dinners I had in Iceland, with local specialties like Arctic char and lamb, all beautifully presented. Service was courteous and warm, and the staff made every effort to ensure guests were comfortable and well taken care of. It felt both luxurious and personal, which is a rare combination. If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic, and upscale stay in South Iceland — especially if you want to experience the Northern Lights in comfort — I highly recommend Hotel Grímsborgir. I would gladly stay here again.

Hotel Grimsborgir is located near the kerid crater. It was my intention to visit the crater as soon as it opened in the morning, but I got a little impatient and couldn’t wait (it didn’t open until 10 am). That’s on me, though, for being the way that I am. The location is perfect for those who are traveling along the Golden circle and wish to further explore the area. There is also a lookout/view point nearby that overlooks the river, along with a beautiful view of the hills and beyond. It is absolutely worth the stop. I wish I had booked more than one night at this hotel. The rooms are situated in small buildings, around a loop, with every room/apartment getting a beautiful view, regardless of which direction it faces. The biggest bonus for me was that the bed was absolutely, amazingly comfortable! Traveling around Europe for the past few years, I always dread how firm the beds will be as they tend to be on the very firm side throughout Europe. The bed had the perfect amount of firmness and fluffy cloudiness and I slept wonderfully! The room came with a wonderful bathroom that included a nice-sized shower. The only negative here is that the shower curtain could use to be a bit heavier to prevent it from attacking you while showering. This, of course, only happens when you take a hot shower and it’s colder outside the shower than in. I just happen to be one of those females who takes a shower the temperature of hades… (I write too much and it got cut off. )

We truly had the most wonderful experience staying here! We were only in Iceland for a few days (on IcelandAir's extended layover), and we all wished we could stay longer. The accommodations we so comfortable: ample pillows, huge bathroom and tub, comfy mattress. I usually sleep poorly when away from home, but I slept like a baby! The complimentary breakfast was stellar. Tons of delicious food options (fruit, eggs, vegetables, yogurts, cereals, meats, breads, pastries) and an expresso machine that could make a lot of different coffee drinks. Staff even arranged to make us a to go box of food when we mentioned were leaving before breakfast our last morning. Every single staff we interacted with was warm, friendly, and helpful. We got the Aurora wakeup call and got some amazing pics from our balcony. Everything was perfect. Will definitely stay again when we return to Iceland.

We had the most wonderful stay at this oasis! The room was spacious, clean, comfortable & peaceful. The hotel provides great access to sites on the southern coast of Iceland. We can’t say enough about the welcoming staff. From the reception, to breakfast & restaurant staff - everyone was so kind. We particularly enjoyed dining in the restaurant after some long days of exploring. The food was absolutely delicious! We want to particularly thank Radka and Dory for their hospitality and warmth. They were delightful to talk to & very attentive. We look forward to coming back!

Lovely hotel in a beautiful spot with easy access to all of the attractions in and around the Golden Circle of Iceland. The best part was the comfort of the bedding, large space, & great amenities in the large bathroom. We upgraded to include a private hot tub, which was wonderful at days’ end. Our only issue was the fact that the radiant heat in the flooring was set too high. While comfortable on your feet, it warmed up the room to nearly 80°. It was not adjustable nor could we turn it off. We had to sleep with the patio door open all night and a fan blowing to keep us from sweltering. This is highly unusual in the country of Iceland, and they do not have air conditioning. We arrived on an unusual sunny & warm day for Iceland, and that translated to a very hot hotel room. As we were approaching the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, the sun never went down and it never got dark. So sleeping was tricky to begin with, but we had heavy drapes and eye covers. The main problem was the stuffiness of the room.

We loved our stay at this hotel - our favorite hotel in 11 days of travel around Iceland. The staff is friendly, patient and very helpful. The lobby-reception area is relaxing with complimentary tea, coffee, cocoa and cookies. The hotel is exceedingly clean and the decor is soothing. Our room was amply spacious with a great bath room. Again, compared to 8 other hotel stays, the Eldhestar had the nicest breakfast buffet (included). The hot tub is another plus. We also recommend dining at the hotel for dinner. Excellent service, great food.

This hotel is beautiful and comfy and fun. Everything is very clean. Horse themed everything.There's a nice lounge to hang out in, with a fire place and coffee and tea and books and couches. Nice bar and restaurant for breakfast. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Hotel guests get discounts on horse riding tours, which we took advantage of. I would definitely go again!

My son and I spent three nights at this hotel. This is a hotel that caters to horse lovers and riders. Though we did not do any horse back riding, we did appreciate that each room was dedicated to a past or present horse on the premises. A plaque with the horse's name and other information was next to each hotel room. The room and bathroom were very clean. There is a restaurant on the premises for dinner and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was extensive and dinner was a la carte and delicious.

That was my favorite stay in the whole trip, clean, cozy, beautiful inside and the view outside is amazing. I felt so good there, safe and relax, like in a country house, seeing the mountains, snow and to complete in the morning seeing sunrise and the horses was amazing. The restaurant is so good.

Stayed for 3 nights, booked a twin room, when we arrived the back door didn't lock. They had no available twin rooms so accepted a double room for the 1 night, instead of staying in the original room. So all in all we ended up in 3 room throughout our stay. The rooms were all big enough for the 2 of us, they were all clean and comfortable, only downside was the pillows were too flat for our liking, but we made it work. The hot tubs were closed so unable to comment. There was parking on site and we never had issues finding spaces. Before we arrived they emailed to let us know they had a Christmas dinner event during our stay, we booked a table and it was such s lovely experience. The chef walked us through the buffet, explaining all the different dishes, at the end the northern lights were visible and the chef came over to let us know when was a welcomed surprise. Plus we managed to see the northern lights all 3 nights that we were there. Breakfast was included, they had s nice mix of items available, from cook your own waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, bread, fruits, meats and cheese, vegetables, and a mix of spreads, as well as a variety of hot drinks. All the staff were welcoming and friendly, I would definitely return.

Outdoor jacuzzi pool for each unit is greatly appreciated, especially when the weather was cold and damp.

We loved the cabin and restaurant. It was roomy and perfect for our family. There was plenty of living space and bedrooms. The hot tub took 30 minutes to fill but it was hot and clean. The cabin was very clean and beds were comfortable. It had all of the supplies we needed. There was a grill in the deck. It was central to many of the Golden Circle attractions. Everyone we talked to at the reception area was very helpful and friendly. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Breakfast was okay. Our dinner was tasty and prices seemed pretty good.

Place was great, very clean and friendly. Front desk was helpful and informative. Pros: 1. large place and fully stocked kitchen with fridge, stove, and supplies. ambiance of log cabin feel, amazing. 2. living room great, couch/sitting area with open floor plan. wished there was 2nd bathroom but not dealbreaker. 3. restaurant at the hotel, good food. 4. warm water in shower and hot tub didn't have jets, just have to fill with water. 5. patio area, private. Wifi was great and worked fine. Cons: none, just wished there were jets on hot tub and 2nd bathroom. enjoyed our visit, even gave free drinks on checkin and friendly.

Cottages were spacious, comfortable, quiet, and clean. The views were nice and the restaurant was great after a long day of exploring. Food was delicious!

Very cute and rural. 20 mins from Selfoss but little light pollution in the area. We saw the northern lights from the hot tub! but they were easier to see when we took a drive. Very convenient to a lot of golden circle stops and great that it had a restaurant because there aren't many super close. Did not have ice or free coffee and there was no breakfast available. Kitchen was nice to have for sure. There was no oil or anything though. Hot tubs and shower were very hot! Cabin was also cozy. You cannot control the temperature.

Amazing cottage, beautifully located in nature, warm and modern interior. And the jacuzzi outside to view the northern lights was everything!

The location was exceptional, together with the facilities at the house it was the perfect stay for us. Never seen such a complete cottage as this one. Big compliments to the owners. Loved the jacuzzi as well!

We had a group of four who stayed in the lovely cottage. The place seemed to be newly completed and everything was sparkling clean. We enjoyed using the outdoor jacuzzi & even caught a glimpse of the northern lights.

Las casas son muy lindas, limpias y cómodas. Tienen todo lo necesario para cocinar, tv, jacuzzi. Todo funcionó bien, no tuvimos ningun problema. Las instrucciones muy claras. Nos encanto el lugar. Lo recomiendo!

Very nice Guesthouse.We stayed in cottage with jacuzzi and big terrace.It was very specious and well equipped,two rooms and kitchen with dining area.The place is very close to Selfoss,walking distance and major attractions in the area. The staff is really amazing and helpful.We had an wvening flight so we could Leave our car and take shower at the camping begore leaving in the evening whis I find very nice.

A lovely, cosy and quiet hut with everything a traveller needs. The setting is lovely, the centre of Selfoss with its shops and restaurants is very close by. The hut was very comfortable (especially the bed) and big, and very good curtains on the windows which is nice in the summer. A few other things we really liked: well-equipped kitchen, large bathroom, sitting area in front of the entrance, parking a few meters away and everything was very clean. I would return anytime, alone or with a family, for a shorter or longer stay as well. We were really glad that this was our last accommodation, because it was a great end to the trip. Thank you for everything!

Just about everything: condo cabin setup, cooking/kitchenware, clean, cozy, toiletries, laundry, all staff, they were very helpful, especially Staku, a welcoming and friendly receptionist. A great value all around!

Hottub and the fact that there were only 3 apartments. Please dont change to money greedy people who add more and make it uncomfortable. Ive stayed in 6 apartments now in Iceland and yours was the best because I felt like it came from the heart. In others I felt like the place was made only to earn (7 apartments and 1 toilet for example)

This was the perfect stay for our road trip in Iceland. Susanna was great at communicating prior to the trip and met us when we arrived. Herself, her husband, two dogs and cat were super friendly and made us feel welcome. The cabins... well what can I say, these were perfect. so cute and cozy and the perfect surprise for my sisters birthday. The beds were really comfy, the cabins were warm and had everything we needed. The shower room was warm (it was about -10 degrees outside) with lovely warm water and there were even dressing gowns we could use! What made it even more special was the AMAZING show the Northern lights put on all night while we enjoyed the hot tub. I 100% recommend this stay.

- Very friendly, warm and welcoming host with amazing cuddly and playful dogs: it was a lot of fun seeing Nero running in circles with his giant ball and Pluto laying on your foot for a belly rub! - Shower cabin is clean and equipped with all necessities - Cabin is obviously small, but space was well thought, with plenty of shelves to accommodate things needed for our stay: even if it involves some logistical planning, travelling with massive suitcases was not an issue - Cabins themselves and the location were beautiful and peaceful, making this stay the nicest of a 16 days trip!

Really cozy and relaxing apartment. Perfect for a couple. They thought of everything. All the little things, details. Romantic jacuzzi and sauna in the garden. Beforehand there were good guidance on where to find everything and what it includes. The day upon our arrival there was an sms as well. Well organized and professional.

The apartment had everything we needed. it was very warm and comfortable. we got in quite late as we had a packed itinerary that day and it was so lovely to be able to park our car easily and use the code to get the key for our apartment. The jacuzzi and steam room were fabulous. The shower was great too, so powerful. Comfortable beds and a great little kitchen.

Loved a late night soak in the hot tub - note not Jacuzzi so no bubbles but still appreciated after long days exploring the amazing country!

the best choice there is! we love this apartment. it was for us the second time we stayed here and we love everything about it. the design is so well done, the beds are super comfy, everything (and more!) is there where it’s supposed to be. The hottub is relaxing at the end of the day. There is a lot of space and its super homely. 10 out of 10 definitely 🙏🙏

These holiday homes are at the perfect location, to explore the famous golden circle, and the south of Iceland. Lying in the hottub and stargazing (possibly even with northern lights) is an experience you won't get enough of. It was warm, and cosy, and had everything we needed to cook meals, and hot tea.

Beautiful cosy cabin a good distance away from others so we felt completely secluded. Fabulous views from the balcony. Everything we could ask for was provided although, being British, we did go out and buy bigger tea & coffee cups. The hot tub was a great addition, right next to the back door so we didn't need to brave the cold for too long before hopping in the shower. The cabin was much warmer than we expected - in fact we had to open windows at night (in February) to keep from overheating! This would have been the perfect spot to see the Northern lights had they made an appearance. Sadly the weather was too cloudy during our 2 night stay.

Gljufurbustdir Holiday Homes is conveniently located near the Golden Circle. There are several cabins on the property, each with plenty of space for a private, peaceful view of the countryside. The cabin is cozy with comfortable beds and plenty of space for the family. We were able to prepare meals and enjoy our time in a beautiful setting after a busy day of touring. The cabins are located near a nice, small town and two horse back riding facilities. There is also a hot tub. The owners provided us by email information about local activities and shopping. They responded quickly to questions which is very helpful. The cabin was one of our favorite locations with a true feeling of comfort in the countryside.

The house is very cosy, quiet location, comfy beds. You may experience the sulphur smell when you run the taps, but by no means it is dirty in the house - it is all down to Iceland being geothermal island :) Host was very friendly and there was hot tub, enough space to park car, coffee, soap and all basic kitchen utensils to cook. I recommend this place for groups and families.

The location was wonderful - in Selfoss, a stone's throw from a beach and a short drive from a variety of awesome places, such as Thingvelir National Park and several geothermal parks. The flat was clean with lots of windows and a hot tub that was the perfect end to every hiking day. The beds were comfortable with the European-style duvets. The owners were communicative, friendly, and welcoming.

Very (very) well equipped and comfortable apartment, located near the beach in a quiet environment. The hot tub and large terrace added extra comfort. The owners were extremely helpful and nice for truly optimizing our stay. Once again, an outstanding place to stay in south iceland !

Jóhanna & Stefán are great hosts. They are very responsive, accommodating, and helpful. The apartment was big enough for our family and offered full comfort. Also, the kitchen was equipped with everything you might need and more. There is a big balcony with a great view of sunrise, sunset, and northern lights (see pictures). Beds are very comfortable, Wi-Fi was good as well, and you have access to the hot tub, laundry, and BBQ. We loved this location because it is about an hour or less away from many main attractions on the south coast. There is a grocery store close by, but we mostly shopped in neighboring Selfoss, in Kronan, which is a large and well-equipped supermarket, about 10-15 minutes away. We would love to come back some day :)

Very nice and spacious apartment on the top floor that's fully equipped. Very clean, comfortable beds and really friendly owners. We had a warm welcome from Stefan, and him and Johanna also sent us information ahead of time about shops etc. You can also do laundry at the location. We were attending a wedding in Stokkseyri, so the location was ideal, but it is also a great place to stay if you want to explore the golden circle.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Stryta Guesthouse! The pictures don't do it justice. It was light and airy and impeccably clean with lovely views of the fields and horses just behind the house. The hot tub worked perfectly and was much appreciated after long days of hiking and sightseeing. The house was cozy and warm, the kitchen was well stocked, and the beds were comfortable with nice linens. It is a short drive to the Reykjadalur hot spring thermal river hike which we enjoyed and close to Selfoss for restaurants and grocery stores. All in all it was perfect and we would choose to stay there again in a heartbeat!

Absolutely gorgeous views. Ponies right outside the windows, rolling fields. Lovely hot tub that heated up fast. Clean, peaceful and beautiful. Owner was kind and helpful. Close to Selfoss and Hveragerdi. Close to riding stables. East drive to the crater, the geyser and Gulfoss. Everything we needed was provided. Traveling with our 5 children and everyone was comfortable and happy! Highly recommend!

The property was clean and facilities were modern and well equipped. The windows had views of glaciers in the distance and would likely be a great place to see the northern lights at the right time of year. Amazing shower and warm geothermally heated floors. There were 2 sweet, gentle, non-barking dogs named Moi and Katla who came to hang out with us outside while we enjoyed the view. There is an oven which is a huge plus given much food is sold frozen at the grocery stores. We would definitely stay here again. Free Netflix and good WiFi. Perfectly situated to head toward the Golden Circle or southern Iceland (towards Vik).

The experience was very unique. For a few days we got to live in a cabin (with all conveniences of a modern world like a dishwasher, coffea maker, Wi-Fi and even Netflix) located in the middle of icelandic wilderness. It was a perfect combination. Breathtaking views, crystal clean air, quietness and privacy. The cabin location offers a perfect, unobstructed view in every direction. We were lucky enough to experience Northern Lights 3 nights in the row. A perfect base for a golden circle touring. Just make sure every day to leave the cabin a little earlier than planned - you just have to have time to play with the dogs :)
